I cut the manifold roughtly with a 1mm disc on a grinder, then built a jig to hold the manifold and used my festool pendel saw with a blade for aluminium to acheive a straight cut accross the 4 ports.

The car still is not running on r1 carbs, i fitted weber 40's , the head leaked oil from the stem seals, so i replaced them , it still leaked so i got another head and ported it myself, polished reground the valves, again new seals, gaskets , bolts..............this head pours the oil down past the seals, genuine vw seals too, it sits in the garage, head removed in bits

It's a pity you can't buy intrest and motivation, because i'm all out.

jamez you got all that way then gave up and went for webbers?

are you going to use the bike carbs and manifold?

How did you insert the plugs in the injector holes?

Sorry for all the questions just trying to get everything sorted so i can get it all ready for mine.

    Cheers

    Ben

aye, just need to find a 17mm allen key
the trick og using a wheel bolt & spanner may be tricky due to the space around the inlet? Couple of nuts on a threaded bar would do it tho. Or like me ask your dad to pinch a 17mm allen key from work

^ That's my chopped manifold, just unscrew the injector seat shims (just use grips/pliers, no need to find a daft sized allen key), drop a 1p piece down the hole and refit :)

Well I've finally got them on today, bought a Facet and a Filter King in the end. Recycled all the existing fuel lines (return is now feed, part of the old feed now joins reg to carbs).

So far one of the hoses sucked itself off the carbs so it sounded like a Subaru steam train :p, the reg was leaking all over the place, I have no servo and it's flat as f*ck, has no power at all...

The jets are still the 165's that came in them so I'm hoping by the time I drill them to 175/180 (?) then that should sort it..

Fuel pressure is 3psi, I've not altered the mixture yet, but as I say it feels completely gutless but pops nicely on overun?

I'll get some pics up at some point, and updates with progress :)

    Here we go -

    Before

    After

Forgive the filtiness, it's the least of my worries atm!

Today I've had them all back off again to put the hoses on more securely (seems they'd all sucked off abit...) but now I havn't got enough juice in my battery to try it [><]

And I still need to sort servo.

wind all the mixture screws in then back out about 2 1/2 turns, should get the mixture about right, and drill the jets to about 170, mine is a 2.0 and are 175s should get you running a little better!

does it matter that the samcos are different lengths and angles on the outer two cylinders than the middle two?
also surley when fitting bike carbs onto a manifold using samco there is a massive lip for the air to overcome therefore not being a smooth flow.

All the Samco's are the same length just different angles, and there is a lip... It's not ideal...
