Thanks guys! This thread is about to get more "club gti" though Oh god. What am I doing? And the best part ... Oh no wait I mean
Luckeybabes, I follow you in a while, congratulations on the changes you've made to the Golf, they are very successful. A greeting!!
Yes it bolts in. You have to modify the bulkhead to accept the hydraulic clutch though. And move a bracket on the pedal box for it to just bolt up to the steering column. Yep, seems like another 20vt. I'm getting a bit bored with just owning it and not changing it. No more factory extras to add and all. So it needs to evolve. I will do it justice. You will see.
Shame to see this lose the 16v If you're going for a full factory-look 20VT you need the header tank in the OE position like this: Would be nice to get the airbox on the OS too but I'm not sure how you'd go about that.
Not sure I could 20vt this! So nice that it's so OE. Don't rate the 20vt engines really either. We've had so many in needing major rebuilds. They're a pain in the ass to work on as well
Bored with it tbh. Things need to change. Yeah i thought about the air box on the left side too. Might be able to figure something out. Thought about doing something with the intercooler there too.
Rear wiper fixed today. Works better than ever. The wire must have been wearing pretty thin for a while. Really fast now I've soldered it. And I started stripping the Mk4. I'm liking the project so far. Taking things apart is always fun though. Managed to finaly get my vag com cable working on the mk4 too. Haven't used it in a while! No fault codes so I am free to take the engine out. Might get cracking on it tomorrow. Hopefully I will have no codes on it when it goes back into its new home too.
Its been a weekend of no updates so heres where I'm at. That was Friday evening. Then Saturday I took the rest of the wiring loom out and off the engine while labelling it all and a few bits that I had left on the car. And I was going to put the engine up on my engine stand but didn't have the right 12 point bit to get the pressure plate and flywheel bolts off. Only a few problems so far. The bell housing was missing a bolt to the engine. and so was the gearbox mount brace, the plug for the reverse light switch was missing. Found the bare wires just tucked up in the loom. So someone has done a crap job of changing the clutch at some point in its life. And I found this. A nice big crack in the bell housing. Not sure how far it extends. Might be able to get it welded up if it goes no further. Maybe they dropped it when changing the clutch? Who knows. And today I went and bought some 12 point bits to take the clutch off. Looks pretty worn and the duel mass flywheel seems to have a lot of play in it. Pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. BIN! Lots of cleaning to do now. Looks like the valve cover gasket has been leaking for a while.
Nice work Have seen this at a few shows over the summer, looks fantastic. Look forward to the engine updates.
