    Ok looked up the bearings for my new engine and on ETKA there seems
    to be 3 kinds for each engine. They carry colour designations, Yellow/
    summat/summat.

    Whats the difference, which ones should i be using & why?

    Tim

    ps, im as good as guessing as the next person, but id appresiate
    someone who knew.

    I may be wrong but usually they list the standard as Yellow and then use other colour codes for oversized bearings.

    i.e Standard = Yellow
    .020 = Blue
    .030 = Green

    They are only examples, i'm not sure what colours mean what size.

    You'd be using slightly oversized bearings......

    There are no cam bearings you can stick in...... they run directly in the head.

    There are no removable cam bearings, as I said - take a look at the head yourself. The cams came out of the factory at a standard size, and the head has bearing surfaces machined into it, again at a standard size. No oversizes or undersizes, or replaceable bearings from the factory.

    That's more likely, but if you fitted a new set of caps you would need the whole head align bored......

    Unless there's obvious signs of wear or scoring, there's rarely a problem with them. Just keep them in the right order when you take them off...... ;)

    Thats not strictly true, Ive seen a VW head with camshaft bearings like small main bearings (like fords 1.8d head) and Ive seen some VW motorsport heads with needle roller bearings for the cam :o

    You can have them fitted for shell bearings if they die, but they never came like that from the factory. I fancy those needle bearings, tho....... :p
