eeeeeeeerrrrr you can fit new caps without line boring the head but you need to know how to do it (top secret)

Aftermarket companies make them for a range of vehicles so when the caps break when a cam belt goes so the head wont have to be scrapped

If your going to by new main or big end bearings then buy them from the company that either grinds your crank or polishes it, ask for KS bearings as its more than likely they were the same make as the originals and half the price. Never ask a VW parts bod for engine bearings/rings etc as they dont have a clue

Factory recon heads were sometimes heads that were reclaimed because the original machining was not up to scratch, cam housings that were over size were overbored and bearings fitted, admittedly very rare. All factory recon heads were all new castings so it had to be a machining problem that caused the oversize housings

The heads with the needle rollers in were great, without the head sprung up you could spin the cam with your fingers and it would keep going for ages:thumbup:

ok going to bung it straight in.How will i know if it`s the wrong/right size for the cam without getting hold of expensive measuring equipment? should i jack the car up put it in gear and turn the wheels to see how tight it is ? or just start it up and see? [:^(]

Just whack it in, it'll be fine as long as there isn't anything obviously worn on cam or bearing surfaces.....

I'd mic it just to be sure, but at 12k it's 99% certain to be fine. Regrinding leaves the crank weaker and more prone to stress cracks, plus oversize bearings are often pricier.

be cool, ill leave it to the guy working on the crank i think.
