Well I decided on Sunday to sort out a few issues for my up coming MOT. New rear wheel bearings, new ball joints and new track rod ends. The track rod ends put up a good fight but I won and got the tracking the best I could. Seeing as I've already ruined 2 6 month old tyres I'll be getting the tracking sorted ASAP. While having a good look under the car I noticed quite a few small holes in the back box, so a new one was sorted thanks to the classified section here . The other small thing I needed to get done was a SMALL hole in the sill need to be welded up, so I took it today to get sorted. Turned into this I guess the rots not too bad but if the cost is too high, it'll have to wait for money to come in which means no Cubry in May[:^(]
Doesn't look too bad AFB, the pans on my '91 were similar but solid. Wire-wheeled back to bare then covered in rust treatment of your choice should be fine.
Well, it's been decided to park the mk2 until I can get the funds to pay for 400 worth of welding[:^(], but I'm going to pay for my new motor first
No car just an engine. I hope to have the money in the next month. The 400 is to weld both floor pans, the left inner sill and replace the whole right out sill
Get a heat gun on your floors & remove all the tar from the floor pans so you can have a good look at the rust. On the drivers side, the fuel pipes go under your feet so they will need to be removed. 400 seems alot but its not the easiest thing to weld thin sheet. If you prep the car for welding, would it make the bill any less??? Well done for not giving in & scrapping it though,a valver will transform it up to the next level!
