Just to continue the discussion.... mk 16v mk2 is on par with my friends mk4 v6 4-motion. He has 205bhp. I have 170bhp. That kind of shows the difference in power-weight. He can get off the line better than me, but both foot the floor the difference is half a car (due to traction). Nothing in it what-so-ever. Also worth noting my friend has a mk4 with the 115bhp and its so slooow and heavy its untrue. A bog standard 8v running 110bhp would beat it every time - and its been tested on the m4. I want to drag race Matt and whoop his lardy assed mk3 - then spank him in the ring of death.
i got pwned at pod by a fabia vrs that had been remapped... ffs, i was like a handful of 10ths behind him (3-4 tenths) but try as i might, couldnt do it it didnt make total sense because i assume the fabia weighs more
I hope with stone cold engine too! I still have focus and everymorning its whell spinning off drive Have 24 hours left to break it!
FYI, i own the ring of death. i wouldnt recommend you taking your chances in there. as for my mk3 vs yours (you could just take it to pod and time slips will tell you how much yours pwns mine by).... or i could just bodyslam your mk2 to death with my 'heavier than the sun' golf. read it and weep noob
Well yer in a crash a mk4 vs mk2 there would be no contest tbh. Thats one of the reasons the mk4 is so heavy though. In a race no contest either. mk2 all day long.
i seen the 5th gear head-on crash test, where a new sml car (renault modus), went up against a big old car (volvo estate) - the passengers in the volvo would've come out 2nd best. so the new cars are defo more safer, comfortable, full of extras etc than their old model equivs. but, back to the org point i'd put my money on the mk2 in a straight drag race, even the 2.0 gti!! i think a fairer competion for your diesel would be the mk4 petrol 2.0 gti really!!
I always have a laugh reading these, 'who's faster' threads. Always puts me in mind of Americans on the 'freeway' (motorway in English ) honking horns 3 times then planting it on a road where you can see the horizon. Straightline warriers. A real life test would be around a track that both drivers know well. I can make my standardish 8v (114bhp/127Lbs) punch above its weight on track. Although like someone said earlier in the thread, in a straightline test from 0 to top of third I would expect the 8v to be nose infront, after that the TDi would walk away. Rolling starts the TDi would have the 8v but round a track the mk2 would be quite a few seconds ahead lap after lap after lap, and if the session was long enough I'd be expecting to close in on the back of a TDI again. (assuming the TDI is std and the 8v mildly tuned like my own).
Like a true racing driver I have a good excuse for each and every one of my 'offs' Plus if you don't spin you aint trying! I had Nissan 200's getting out of my way in the wet
I know people say 'TDI' has advantage in gear. But to be honest, I still think a mk2 8v would walk away victorious against a standard 115 tdi both off the lights and in gear. I don't swear by stats but: mk4 115PD TDI: 0-60 in 10.0 secs mk4 130PD TDI: 0-60 in 9.3 secs
Well there you go the mk2 8v is 8.3 to 60mph. so cant really see it being terribly even in any way if the mk2 is running right. Cheers Dan
