I thought it was a known fact that MK2s are the fastest in the world, and we only drive slower so people can admire......;)

MK2 all the way id say, fat makes a big difference and the mk4 tdi has lots of it, the peti car has less.
does anyone know the true bhp of the mk2 16v or is it year dependant, iv got a j plate and seems quicker than earlyer models?????

    Mk2 s rule.

You might just be suprised at how quick those little things can be (or were if there's any left). Up to 90/100 or so anyway

    when will you learn

    oak greens are fastest.

    8vs have the most torque

a remap on a tdi really will give you about 300hp and live on the same clutch for the next 55 years

a 1.6 GL with a drilled airbox and some redex will beat an enzo to 165mph

16vs have bigger legs than the robot in the c4 advert

if a tdi has a red TD then it was in star wars a new hope

the the gti, i is red, then it was in the empire strikes back

my fave is always people who say about their gtis, pug or vw being quicker than a ferrari...

serehp is the real inventor of the haynes manual

there you go, VW myths all settled.

the real answer is, it depends on the car, the conditions, the driver, what speeds up to, how far, modified or standard

    and really, who cares.

Fold the rear seats down to go faster too obviously.

And where would you propose to do that? On a public road like some chav idiot would do no doubt?! Lets all go and endanger the public with our reckless driving to prove a point raised on the internet! Wow. Clever.

EDIT - Sorry being an old man today

    haha, read the whole thread...
are the mk4 posse having a laugh or what.
the mk4 is much heavier, isnt it like 1400kg? then driver on top.
im sure my 8v is only 1000kg plus driver.
so thats 40% power to weight over it already
then theres the 8v gearbox, absolute madness really good ratios.
i would say the 115 mk4 would not catch the mk2 till 110-115mph.
the 130 would most likely be snapping the heals of the 8v as you pop it into 5th at 90.
    130/1400=.092857 x 1000= 92.86bhp/tonne
    and 8v mk2
    112bhp per tonne.
    you get the picture.

Good point, coz the MK2's are powered by remote control.

the mk4 was made heavier so it can bang your rust bucket mk2s out of the way. neither cars are particularly quick but the mid range torque from a 130 gt tdi would be enough to silence an 8ver. of course such a thing depends on whether the mk2 would actually be capable of accelerating hard without the engine exploding under the pressure.
