So i'm making a start on putting the engine in the car

its a DBW engine so i need to use the pedal too

I'm really having trouble coming to terms with how to wire the engine in, the engine bay loom is digi at the mo
i'll remove both plugs from the back of the fusebox and use some of the wires to join into the loom of the new engine
The engine loom has a plug into the ECU and the other plug from the ECu will be wired into the existing engine bay loom

what wires from the car loom are the main ones used, and what did they goto on the digi ?

i have attempted to read the huge thread about oem management but there is so much going on i cant follow whats what
Also the pictures at the start no longer work, anyone got a pic of a 20vt loom with notes pointing to what does what and goes where ?
and some good pics of the plugs from ecu with notes and colours

the rear of the CE1 fuse box as posted by RJ

Thanks

does anyone have

After much thumb twiddling and talking about swapping engines today i made a start

i went from this
[IMG]

All the way to this

Engine and gearbox out
Servo removed
Wiring for engine removed

I need to just cut the front pipe off
turns out the rear gearbox mount is kaput , rear engine mount is squdgy too
1 rounded off 6mm driveshaft and 1 snapped exhaust bolt were the total problems i had
Oh and trying to find a 12 sided 9mm socket for the clutch ! , all my tools are snap on and i dont have any 12 sided sockets, had to root about in the old toolbox left by my dad who died 15yrs ago , good old dad had the socket i needed !!

So its all out and the next step is to try and sort some wiring... with lots of help from RJ with any luck

So the golf is a 1.8 digifant with mfa
i have removed 2 lots of loom from the car

1 is the loom that runs to the fuse box via the top hole in the bulkhead

The other is the loom that ran into the old ECU , this was connected to the other loom by a single red wire that was on the coil

[IMG][/IMG]

So the looms from the TT are as follows, this 1st loom was in the engine bay and connected to the fusebox and ECU

[IMG][/IMG]

Second is the actual loom that was attached on the engine, this also runs to the ECU

[IMG][/IMG]

Last pic is them both together, TT engine bay and engine loom

[IMG][/IMG]

This pic is the two ECU plugs together Left plug is the main engine bay loom plug and Right is the engine loom plug

[IMG][/IMG]

As i have been planning this swap for ages i also have some odds and ends of wiring from random golfs and other vw's
Which means i have this spare for any bits that i need to chop off ..

after lots of unwrapping of horrible sticky tape and cutting of eighties plastic loom cover, its all ready

My loom looks a bit different to RJ's post
These are the plugs from the fuse box in the car

[IMG][/IMG]

These are the TT fuse box plugs

[IMG][/IMG]

Very different from mk4 , i guess i will need a wiring diag for the TT to figure out where they go

Which of these is the SAI relay ?

If only
The fact that my plugs are different than those in the thread is a worry
and as i say, i cant get my head around the way to actually do it

what wires from the tt loom do i keep ? there are bloody millions of wires

i guess i'll just have to go for some trial and error

I'm not sure what you mean chap, those fusebox plugs are the same as what you see on mk4 golf DBW looms, with my thread use the late MK4 pinout and the info for DBW and those with ECU relay

Excuse my dumb mind, I was having a brain fast, when I sat down and looked at the loom things seemed a bit clearer, all I need to find is a plug for the Dbw pedal now

for the dash? yeah but use a black 2 pin that one is for a mk2 ecu. however where is your ecu sensor going to go?

if the 20v loom used a 4 pin sensor use a mk3 golf 1.8-2.0 8v 4 pin sensor with plug spliced to match, or change the rad hose joiner for one with a sensor flange and add your black 2 pin sensor there. its all in my faq linky :)

Ah I see, I need two sensors not just one
I'll get a mk3 one from VW and.use the old.black sensor in that housing on the other thread

I'm pretty sure these connectors are redundant and were for.the pcv valves

And these, one is the lower oil sensor (not used)
Not sure what the other is

No you missunderstand ;) the 4 pin sensor does both the dash, and the ecu. The problem is that the dash temp sensor part on Audi/MK4 type sensors are the wrong rating for MK1/2/3 dash, therefore you have to do something to make it work. Your 3 options are:

1. take the mk4 type sensor out and use a mk3 4 pin sensor with plug spliced to match instead
2. use a mk2 sensor as well as the original Audi sensor
3. splice a resistor inline with the purple wire to the dash to make the Audi signal compatible with MK1/2/3 dash

the 4 pin one is coolant temp sensor for ecu and dash, this is what you need to mess with as above. the other 3 pin sensor there is for the electronic speedo, unused. with the 2 pin if one is green/brown thats the n75, grey/green one is N249 valve.

Right, so I use the original audi 4 pin, 2 go to ecu and are fine, using original wiring/plug
Then buy/ obtain housing as pictured in other thread and use my old mk2 black sensor in it, wired for.the dash

I think I understand now.. :$
