Engine, yes. Rest of car - avoid. S4 will do you proud, lovely cars. Silver body needs black or graphite wheels imo, otherwise it's just too bland.
There was an S8 on here that had black wheels put on it that totally ruined it. You dont start painting wheels on a car like that unless your a chav.
yup... agreed. that s8 was around xmas time i think. i read it whilst out one night whilst really drunk. was convinced i needed it but remembered it was an auto
graphite grey would look nice, with the silver wheels it doesnt really stand out at all.. could be a 2.5TDI sport unless your a car geek
modern autos are pretty clever, manual boxes/cluthces have a hard time with powerful and heavy cars. obviously not the same as ripping up through the gears, but most of the time you can't tell the 7s changed gear, it's just linear thrust everywhere. and you still have the tiptronic gate to play silly buggers with
BM auto boxes have a habit of giving up, even on the smaller models. It's another example of long-life oil not being up to the job. Renault realise this tho the engine on a v6 auto espace has to come out on the 80K service....for the auto box oil to be changed. That's why they're so cheap with 75K on the clock
aye, good tip on the box oil there Mark, mine was just rebuilt before i bought it, but will check on oil etc
Here we go, from Honest John: General Warning about Automatic Transmissions: Many BMWs have "sealed for life" automatic transmissions. Regardless of whether you have a full BMW service history, the dealer will never change the auto fluid. Many of these boxes are failing around the 120-150k mark - often well outside of warranty and to a cost of 3.5k plus VAT. A good independent or automatic transmission specialist www.fedauto.co.uk can and will change the fluid for you (and any good BMW independents will recommend this anyway). This is commonplace in the US and means the 'box should last the life of the car rather than being the cause of it being written off. General advice is ensure the fluid is flushed out every 60k or more preferably at each Inspection II.
you haven't bought the car yet, lol. Another thing to think about is that most of the bushes are worn now and there a fooker to change.
cool, it's been looked after by BMWorx so I imagine this has been done, but will check cheers for the heads up
i think its the whole arms that get changed. i was chatting about these arms on another board, you buy a kit. we found a lemforder one for not a lot of money
tis what put me off an S2000, they have loads of problems with seized rear bushes and where they have RWS it messes the handling big time and costs a fortune to put right
just get one, and tell me all about how great it is, maybe let me have one test drive, and ill get those urges out my system
