My personal view is - I had to pick a more reliable car than my beetle for work, wanted a newbie but couldnt afford one so went for a Golf. Seen Mk 3s at shows and spoke to people who owned them and decided I wanted one. I wanted something with modern touches, Mk 1 and 2's are getting on a bit and although they are cool - MK 3 's are the best. couple I saw at last years GTi Festival ....
I thought it was - wasnt 100% - Well you will have to forgive me, as I'm still new to the watercooled scene
For someone taking such a disparaging, unwarranted view of 20vts, I can imagined what possessed you to take him for a spin!
2k? you confirm it was 2k later in your post. at the 220bhp map (i think it was) the plots were badly lean, id have to see what the "250bhp" was like AFR wise. so yeah, 20vt, costs a fortune to get not a lot of power from, even if you get there, it still delivers the power like a diesel. sounds pretty naff to me
i like my 20vt. hth (i do like the abf, im not denying that, but i by no means dislike the 20vt, at all, otherwise i'd have got rid a long time ago)
yes, but its not because i dislike the a3...... the mk2 is about a million times lighter, and, as we all know, abf goes well in it, it'd be fun, we know this. if i could get and keep both i would. im in no rush to get rid of the a3 and if the right deal never comes up then it'll be with me until it dies.
go out and actually try it, find out for sure. speak to phil on here, it was his mk4 lol in fact, i followed my own car whilst driving his, i couldnt really beleive it either
maybe it has something to do with the fact dave isnt so prejudgemental about people he (then) hadnt met. anyway i fail to see the point of your question, dont really see what it matters to anyone apart from them why matt was in daves car.
he tinted the headlights (+20bhp) took off the overly loud exhaust (-20bhp) 'details' it every weekend (+5bhp)
