finally got round to putting some words to some pics I took [:$]

Throttle bodies management on the cheap

    parts req
ecu found on a variety of peugeots&citreoens from about l-reg on,the one to get is the magnet marelli 8P

the citreoen ecu makes things easier as it has a removable chip(access by a rubber gromet on the rear,
the peugeot you have to remove the back cover and have a chip carrier soldered onto the board.

wiring loom from ecu to engine, intact, you dont need the brown relay box attatched to the loom so cut it of,
my loom came of a 405 which is the longer of the looms but I still had to lenghten it due to were I mounted my ecu in a mk2 golf position on a cutdown mk2 cradle, this is covered by a mk2 plastic cover.

a front crank trigger wheel(pulley)60-2 of a vauxhall 1.4 mpi engine(astra/nova ect)this fits neatly inside the the vw front pulley and is held in plaice by the vw retaining bolts once aligned up and drilled.

while your at the astra/nova getting the pulley get the crank sensor aswell, this is the ideal lenght as it fits onto the rear manifold bolt to make a neater instilation.
You will also need a air temp sensor, found on a variety of cars, metro, escort, mondeo ect.

a coilpack, mine came of a fiesta zetec which allows you to use the oe ign leads.

a couple of relays and holder, found on a mk3 polo in the scuttle pannel(one relay is used to prime the fuel pump, the other runs it.

as your using a coil pack you no longer need a distributor,so this needs blanking off,I cut a old dizzy down and had the hole welded up.

now you need to mount your trigger wheel and crank sensor,I had a couple of of spare engines laid about which made things easier, the crank sensor was mounted on a cutdown power steering bracket on a home made bracket welded onto it.

it needs to be mounted so that with the eng at tdc,the back edge of the 20th tooth from the gap is level with the crank sensor(see pic)

if you unstrip the wiring loom of its wrap(,working from the ecu plug)the ecu plug has pin numbers, looking at the diagram above, remove or cut of the wires not req,you will now be left with 17 wires left attatched to the plug, remove the the unused(cut wires)from the loom, then its just a case or wiring everything up to fit then heat shrinking the loom as I did or insulating tape ect.

you now need a decent cold airflow into the bodies,I built a rad to suit, cost 70,but ive used a nova
gte rad on my mates conversion to good effect

and finally you can only use injectors of a certain resistance or the ecu will not operate them,I think mine are bosch ones(digi?)check with wayne at chipwizards for exact specs.

I would imagine if you fitted a abf manifold & inj rail you could run this system as a alternative to k-jet? But check with wayne first, any questions pm me for more details.

Mods if you want to make this a faq, feel free to do so

Whats the score with mapping it? don't exoect it would run too well on a Pug 1.6 map or any specialist mapping software is compatible.

What does the mapping process involve with this system? Do you have to remove/burn a new chip each time you need to make a change? This seems to be something that gets swept under the rug each time someone goes on about how cheap this method is, it's got to cost you if you always have to go back to chipwizards to tweak it [:s]

Don't get me wrong I think it's a great use of readily available parts and i respect the good work that it's taken to achieve, and it's certainly going to be cheaper than a Motec/DTA etc, but i've seen this touted as a 25 solution which I think is misleading.

How mapable is the Pug/Citroen ECU?

Many cheaper standalone ECU's have very limited mapablility, a certain amount of fixed rev bands that can't be adjusted much.
More expensive have full adjustable parameters.

It's the only question i have regarding the setup, and i'm asking as it's something i am seriously considering and i would like to know.

 Nice one. As you know mk1, you have already pm-ed me the wiring diagram for this set up some time ago but i still havnt time to bolt my bits together [:x] I got all the bits apart from air temp sensor and wiring loom with ecu plug. Not sure which bodies to use as i'v got set of gsxr 1000, and set of magnetti marreli bodies which are very nice to :)
