hey everyone! got this car when i was 16 (now 17) and have been restoring it for a while now. it had been dry stored for 7 years and with only 84,000 onthe clock and it wasa bargin to be had! esspecially when it would have just gone to scrap. these are the first pics of when i went to see it BBS's resprayed BBS's (DIY) lol as he stands then i tackled the rust issue at the rear which looked like this bit of filler lol after lacquer with horrible orange peel lol so.. i set out work on the orange peel.. used 1500grid wet and dry(wet), then t-cut then turtle wax the finish is fantastic!!!! iam so pleased.. and thanks to the clubgti members who advised and helped me !! lol after wet and dry t-cut and wax on and no more orange peel lol woooo then i was time for the rocker cover which was rusty!! so i polished it with various wet and dry and mops but i then decided to spray it black (original) lol also changed the oil.... iam glad i did this becuase i couldnt believ what came out of it lol nasty stuff! lol Hope that wasnt too long winded lol.. i know you people like lodsa pic soo.. ENJOY!
ive already linseeded the bumpers but they need doing again.. just waiting for my uncle to get some tyres... you recon i can afford the insurance when it lowerd!!! no way.. looks better original in my opinion!! boyracers are the devil hahhaha lol
please tell me what company youve been quoted 1800 on a gti with?!?!?!?!?! ive searched long and hard and cheapest i could find on a gti was 4.5k tpo im 17 aswell, been looking for a 1.3 and cheapest i could insure one of those is 1200 (i really must write it off several times and run a pedestrian over just to get my moneys worth ) as soon as i saw the orange peel i was going to reccomend 1500 grit, compound and polish but realised youd already done it, works wonders on orange peely ****e spraypaint looking good sam
think it was with **** fit (quik fit) lol but that was on my mums name and she has 7 years no claims, i think if i was on my own it would be somewhere near the figure your talking lol james
insurance must have changed, as when i was 18 i insured a mk3 16v for 2300 fully comp. 1800 on your mums policy? that is mental
lol. what do you guys think of my new rocker cover i sprayed, its ment to be black but came out grey lol with red bolts????
i think you should concentrate on the outside!!! only gays polish engine bay stuff..... hth when are the bbs going on?
The grey looks great. Real industrial look. It's heat-resistant paint, I hope. Mine started peeling again soon, even though it was heat-resistant, but then I didn't get every little bit of rust off. Big mistake. You've done a proper job, by the look of it. Well, see you at the "Rocker Cover Pride March"!
yes it is heat resistnat paint lol ive got some heat resistant lacquer coming soon from ebay as well lol
this is the engine bay now some new goddies that i fitted in the half term hols. bbss i refurbed my lay flat wiper and these big improvement from when i got it imo! then heres the reson i updated. the little masking lines from respraying my tailgate so iv been rubbing them down and getting rid. i did touch it up with my graphics airbrush but to my dismay after spraying i didnt know ther was moisture in the air lines so i havd to sand it all back and stop being so i got the rattle can out ! lol enjoy
black is a nightmare to spray and get looking good but it'll get there, your exhaust looks some rusty though!
ye it would have been worse if it was matalic lol just trying to find jobs to keep me occupied before i go metal from having to wait so long to drive it! exhaust is fine just passed emissions with flying colour lol looks great with those wheels on. Whens the big day? __________________ another 2 months!! FFS !!! lol just spend 630. from the garage bill! lol guy did a lot of work thou, aparetnly put 13 hours and he did cam belt, made some brake pipes etc etc list goes on ! but at least i know i will be sorted when i do drive it which will hopefully be befor iam an OAP !
How much on insurance? OMG. So glad im an old fart now. My last Mk2 16v cost me 150 Fully Comp on a classic policy through Footman James, with my NCB being used on my main car through a different policy. I can remember paying 1600 TPFT on my own policy when i had my first ever Mk2 16v at 20 years old though. lol. Looking good.
got a quote from diamond on my mums policy full comp for 1300 so not too expensive compared to people of similar age! lol
