well today i did sh** all so decided i would give golfie a wash after i went biking with a friend and ended up getting mud all over the car due to the down hill tack carpark! on the way i also lost a mudflap which i managed to find on the way back, so i took them both off becuase there always loose, i will either leave it as it is or make some bigger brackets to clamp to.

with the sun setting i got some pics on my road.

Just read the entire thread (much to the annoyance of my boss! )
And all i can say is Well Done!
You embody the dubber mentality too a tee.
Congrats on such an awesome first car!
    Take care of it!
You remind me of me and my first golf (84, b reg gti) minter like yours and i spent hours on it.

    Keep it up!

Just one thing! Give it a (mild) whack with the lowering stick, not only will it look better, it WILL handle better! As for insurance, mine didnt cost any more when i lowered it, as it wasnt a power modification, only cosmetic, and you could argue, it makes it safer!

    thumbs up!
Your an inspiration to us all!

righty quick update, as some of you may know my drivers side rear caliper seized and caused the brake pads to melt and the wheel to get very hot (too hot to touch) as soon as i noticed i pulled over, unfortunaly due to the heat it melted the brake dust onto my newly refurbd alloys which i spend stupid amounts of time on!

i needed a new caliper and new pads but fortunatly the disc was good.
so i got 2 calipers from scrappy one brand new (the wrong side lol) for 15 Bargin!

with that fixed i tryed everthing to get it off and it wouldnt shift, the brake dust crap.
it looked like i had been on a 200mile journey and not cleaned the wheel!

it looked like the pic below.

and that was all over the other side of the wheel as well! a right mess.[:x]

i didnt have the camera when i was doing it so ive only got finished pics, it was a lot harder to refurb this time as the tyre and valve were still on[8(]

but ive got a great finish and a new wheel and i did many many coats of clear lacquer:thumbup: [:D]

the pics dont really do it justice but you can imaging what wheels would look like!

    any way iam well pleased.

next jobs on the list before vw festival in aug.

respray back panel where vw badge is (just did this a while back aswell![8(] [:x] )
because waxoyl has melted in the sun and dripped all down and would not shift, i ended up wrecking it by trying white spirit! so it needs doing!

thoughly clean inside and out- machine polish before show.

Looks v. nice. Perfect base for a lairy engine ;)

Are they really standard gti springs and shocks?? Looks exceptionally high (although it might be down to me spending too much time looking at racers and showcars)

I think the standard ride height for an 8v (measured from the centre of the front wheel vertically to the bottom of the arch) is around 340mm+/- 5mm

The best ride/handling compromise for the road i've found so far is to go for a decent quality fixed drop kit of about 40mm on an 8v. If you stick with reasonable profile tyres it will remain compliant and drive better than standard imo :)
