just some random pics and a little update, thought id put up some pics of the interior

the little GTI badge is from the side trim from a big bumper model, it fits perfectly without glue etc!

i also gave the shock a quick scrub with a wire brush and repaint with hammerite,

my exhaust has also been blowing for ages and it really annoys me so i tackled that. i found that where the two pipes joint (middle box to back box) it was blowing very badly, i used fire putty fot the hole, then the foil you get with a bandage and then the bandaged wrapped around all that and then a new bracket.

    problem solved!

old bracket( took about 1 hour to get off, awkward little bu**er!)

and also i ordered a new golf GTI badge for the rear from ebay! rip off! at 18 but really sets off the back end now!

not a very exiting update but its progress!

lol cheers! was thinking of getting an "8V" badge from awsome gti but they are 8 quid so i decided to fettle something up; only thing i did to fit it was to sand off the little clips on the back on a belt sander at school! lol

I said your exhaust was bad months ago! lol, shoudn't of gone through the mot though tbh unless it wasn't blowing then of course, I would give the underside a really good soaking in waxoil as well as it's all looking rusty - prevention is better than the cure!

GTI badge is interesting, think it'd look better black so it's not so "MY CAR IS A GTI" and a bit more subtle :) Is it not a pain to open the ashtray with the grabby bit blocked up though?

And those window winders are awful, sorry [:p]

I have to agree with Jolfa - get rid of the ashtray GTI badge and put the original window winder handles back on. Otherwise it looks like a nice enough example of a small bumper GTI.

I don't use the ashray for ash, that's what the windows are for, I don't wanna keep hold of the stink, useful for keeping pennies in if you go over at the petrol station though!

I think sanding the red off the badge so it's just black plastic would look loads better

    good work.

the underneath doesn't look too bad to me.
the bits that are rusty are the brackets and easy to replace parts, and not the underneath of the actual shell.
