ok to proove/disproove james' theory lets just get a digital lab thermometer,
and use it to meaure temps at the IC intet and outlet, and compare it against
    ambient.

    Same probe, 3 places, sorted.

I know mine might well be but not without running water/methanol injection at the time.

How about you enlighten us as to what we are missing, or just STFU? Personal attacks are bang out of order.

sore keith murray today, i asked him, he said my A4 race car runs no hotter then 850/885c [:D] and the probe is 2" away after the turbo!!! [:D]

If the exhaust gases went higher then 900c i'm sure the Autometer gauges would go higher too!

Well that my 2p's worth ;)
Think if it hit, a 1000c the lot would melt together [xx(]

Bloody hell! not good thats the inside of the flexi joint has come apart!! i'm sure that would make things run hotter too! that could be why your turbo melted!? [:s]

yea.. I dont know what was cause and what was effect. did it die same time as exhaust housing or did it die and cause exhaust housing to die? Its unexplained which is a concern. Hence gauging I want to add for wideband and EGT's etc

    well strange tho.
lost 3 to 4 psi boost when I just replaced exhaust housing from normal level, which has now returned since replacing the dead flexi. Up to the point it died on its feet, dropped to a lazy 20psi max, it ran fine on 23psi boost and spool up was normal. It went all of a sudden on track @ Combe, laggy and a struggle to make a lazy 20psi. Swapped exhaust housing for a.n.other one and spool up returned to normal, but max boost was 20psi. Now flexi is replaced its 23-24psi like normal and spools normally.
I am guessing both flexi and exhaust housing expired at the same time?

    What do you guys think?

Well it sounds like the flexi might of gone first, which then made a back log of heat at the turbo end, if you where on full boost at the time you might not of seen the drop in boost pressure un'till it was too late!! [:s]
Well at least you have found the problem! well done GOOD SPOTING!! [:D]

would have thought the temp that caused the exhaust housing to go would have taken the flex with it. The back pressure would have just made the car run badly but not cause the exhaust housing to melt....
