In-line......it'd be a break from the norm.......and epic sound of 4-lobe rootes blower as a sound-track!?

In the Towrag, it's 288hp, however the same 3.0L lump makes 333hp in the S4/S5 due to blower pulley ratios and remap.

I've got a BAM ecu if you need one? But it will need demobilizing.

Well i've managed to get the BAM on the engine stand and start working on a bit of a general clean and tidy.

    I've removed the sump oil level sensor and fitted a blanking plate kit;

What i'd like to know, is whether this is a temperature sensor or is it a AFR sensor (probe fits into the K04 hot side body)??

Probe is an exhaust gas temp sensor (worth having on a k04)
Fit the turbo now along with the rear engine mount bracket & the turbo to sump oil return pipe,it will need modding slightly for it to fit.
Bend the pipe a touch so its closer to the block, through the bracket & enlarge a small part where it goes to the turbo. All will be evident when you mock it up.

I've looked at using my stock 8V PB rear bracket and there's no way it'll fit due to the oil return line from the turbo!

After some trawling images on the web, I found this one of the Passat B3 16v rear mount.

I can see the bracket is made with space for the oil line to run!

i used a custom one one mine i can post a pic later , goes the other side of the driveshaft , which does not look cool , but works fine

I think original line will fit , but it needs to to bent to go behind the engine mount from what i could make out when i looked at it , but i had 2 different lines

I jhad a K03S line i think and a K04 line and the K03s line kinda fitted , but looked dodgy so did not use that the K04 line hit on the rear engine mount

This is where the mount will need to bolt on.

I have a feeling i'll need to drill these out and tap, as they dont look the right size.

Does anyone have experience of what to do with the electric water pump that connects via pipework to the turbo?
    I'm running OMEX 600 ecu.
Would it just need to run with the cooling fan? or run-on after shutting off the engine?

you can use a mk4 fan controller which is quite simple to wire up and leaves it fully operational

If thats a black box which mounts near the n/s turret, then I do have one in fact - off a polo/ibiza with 20vT. I have the wiring loom too :)

Looks like I will actually need an adapter plate for the VR6 throttle body to mount onto the BAM manifold.

    Reassembly under way.

    Rear engine bracket ordered :)

I've done some reading on this.......and the fan controller is less than straightforward.
There are two basic types of the controller.
Both are allied to the engine and climate control systems.

I may just hook up a separate water temp sensor to keep it running if the coolant is uber-hot.

Just got one of these water pumps myself and looking at putting it in, was looking at using a channel in my motec to run it but guess that wont work as it will be off when i want the pump to run , but interested in the mk4 box , are they on all models or just 20vt`s ?

The fan control box has been fitted to VAG group cars for decades now.

    1993 Passat Example

Just from snooting around on the web it seems that as time has gone on, the controllers have become more sophicticated.
The controller applies logic to the sensors and inputs it's "seeing", and then switches the fan(s) speeds and (in some cases) the pump on/off to suit.

If I was sticking with 100% OEM loom and ECU i'd say it would be plug & play - and of course part of the original wiring.......however i've got Omex600 which would run aux. outputs, but it's ignition switched so (as you say) is useless!

I reckon i'll just hook up a second coolant thermostat which is only fed with +12v when ignition is off (using a relay).
The radiator fan and circulating pump will need to run to make it effective.
