check you have ignition live on pin X, and that the white/black on 56 goes live on 2nd click

    Morning RJ,

Good news all indicator issues fixed.

Unfortunately I still have problem with 58L connector shorting and melting.

The switch operates fine when the steering colum plug bottom right is unplugged. As soon as I plug the steering colum plug in and operate the switch it fries 58L.

Since the rebuild the only thing different is the steering wheel adaptor. Do you think this could be the problem?

    Thanks mate.

Black/grey from fuse box enters headlight switch 58L, on the same wire comes out of 58L goes to curved plug under the ignition barrel. Enters that plug furthest connection away from the barrel still black/grey.

    Hope that makes sense.

Ok I'm just at work, if that does solve it. Does that point to a dodgy switch

    Hi RJ,

    Thanks for the help.

I've got everything working except headlights.

I have 12v at connection X and switches to 56, gonna just trace it the the headlights. New bulbs are on the way too.

I just removed the black/grey from 58l wire between headlight switch and colum plug its worked atreat.

Just one more thing, I've struggled getting the airbox to fit the metering head sits proud of the bonnet, I've got a KN airfilter so I was think of just removing the bottom half of the air box and attach air filter to the top half?

    Thanks

ok follow the white/black wire it goes to the flasher switch. you should have 12v there with hl switch on 2nd click. if you do, unplug the flasher switch plug and jump a wire from the red/yellow to the white then yellow your main then dipped beams should come on. if they do, wiring is all fine its the stalk at fault

if you havent already, source yourself a 90spec inlet pipe setup its much shallower than the pre-90 one. I actually used an 8v metering head boot, it was a bit of a stretch though as the 16v metering head is bigger

even with all that I still had to cut most of the bottom half of the airbox off to get it low enough. made a good noise ;)

    Morning RJ,

Had a look at the headlight issue and its the relay conversion under bonnet.

Can I operate it them with out the relay conversion? Is it there to give better voltage to the bulbs?

    Thanks

yeah strip it all out and go back to stock plugs for now. the relay kit does 2 things, gives your lights maximum voltage straight from he battery plus takes all the load off the internal switches so they'll last longer :)

Hi mate, just tackling the metering head boot.

I have a 90s spec one its roughly about 3/5mm smaller.

Is this the same size you managed to stretch over yours?

This is the one I've got Screenshot_20230104-103237_eBay.jpg

if its a 16v one it should fit on no problem, my issue was I has a mk1 8v boot which was a fair stretch to fit on the metering head
