Had a slight issue the other night with the rear brakes..

Hit a bump in the road at 40mph and the rear brakes locked up, handbrake was jammed on, drivers side rear disc was glowing orange like a Le Mans 24HR car with loads of nasty smelling smoke to boot!

Morning after i investigated to find this

    Spot the problem....

Also the crap guard that sits on the hub was like this

The reason??? Well the bolts which hold the calliper on the hub were gone!!!! No damage, no fecked threrads, just complete gone as tho they had been removed; now i know these were super tight as i hammered them on a few month back...They are the 2 Allen key bolts.

I also had a overheated problem due to a frozen RAD on the night we had a -12 temp... this was the nail in the coffin for my already leaking radiator....cracked...big time

So I fitted a new one, no pics of the new on but here is the car in prep for removal of old unit, we managed to remove/replace with the slam panel in situ which was a bonus, refilled the system with 50/50 mix of VW G12 Plus, and fitted a new heater resistor as my old one was starting to go bad..

car heater/coolant system runs like a charm as do the breaks, we were lucky enough not to have warped a disc, one of the pads was destroyed so we changed those out for a new set

Last thing done was wiring in my puddle lights in my doors, this is a cool mod

trip to the car grave yard to find a MK4...

and here they are, these are lit, bright so hard to get a decent pic but you get the idea, basically just like on a mk4 gti

next up should hopefully be BAM engine time in a month or so

Spacers for the D90 are 30mm rear, 25mm front

Car is now converted to Audi S3 AMK engine

done all the work myself with my good friend ben

we did the car over a 3 day period (once we had stripped it)

some pictures (my mate has loads more)

Bought a 16v car for the gearbox and hydro set up, plus aload of other rsre bits were kept from this car (i replaced all parts removed with the bits from the 8v and then sold the green 16v car on for a profit!! Result

and picked up my 40k AMK engine

which i started to clean up

and got the gearbox off the green car

we rebult this, and fitted a VR6 sachs clutch kit

    Stripped black car

cleaned bay more than what it was (bits i could never get to)

    got busy with stripping inside

    Audi Loom and ECU

    changed bottom arm bushes

    OLD

    NEW

We had to manufacture a pedal box to fit the audi FBW pedal, and as my early GTI one was much different to the late type and had no provison for the hydro parts we used the pedal box from a late spec GTI

    in the car

Managed to source a set of ultra rare 160mph anniversary clocks 9as i didnt want to loose my 140 annie dialsbut wanted a 160 mph readout like the S3)

    Here they are together

i got buy right away and modified these to illuminate blue, these are late type chip led and required a full de solder and strip down of the board, i used mk4 gti chip leds in place of the original green ones

had the mileage corrected to my new engines mileage

also modified my new boost gauge to illuminate the same as the clocks

    made a housing for it

We need to fabricate brackets to hold the coolant bottle, this is next job to do, also going to fit a MK4 washer bottle on the left hand side and route the induction kit where my washer bottle is at the moment

engine is running and im over the moon, waiting on my St/St sports cat to arrive from the states then i can get this on the road

i put the 8v box which had jsut been rebuilt and also had a brand new genuine clutch, the Rod exchange, linkage and brake resovoir bottle all on to the green ABF car, it had a blown headgasket which has been fixed and my mate is driving it round - flys off the mark!!!

1990, i know a guy that can do it, it cost me 40, on the mk3 its done by pluggin a device into a 3 pin socket on the back of the clocks.

the same guy can do any car you want, although im not sure about non digital clocks mind.
