New cambelt kit and water pump now fitted

old water pump was the engines original (40k miles) and its fooked as i expected

zero Impeller left and noisy as hell bearings.

it was so fooked the cambelt was very very loose, so my decision to not drive it the last few days till i sorted a new waterpump was a good one.

anyhow, here is the old waterpump

Here is pic of new one to compare

Car now all back togeather and ready to rock and roll

That water pumps scary! makes me wonder how many 1.8t's are running around with little or no water pump left!

    cheers matey ;)

and yea, i was thinking the same, well any Vag car from this era onwards.

my replacement is genuine audi, the guy was saying they only make the plastic ones now for the entire VAG range but the new ones are uprated so hopefully ill be all good for another 40k+ miles lol

They are not expensive (40) but i decided to swap out the cambelt too seen as it had to be removed to fit the new pump

Car now in my mates bodyshop for a full repaint in original L041, i was not gonna leave untill i had made sure zero dust will get to my clean engine, so i stripped the front end of complete, no wings no nothing and spent a further 2 hours coving every gap where dust could get into the bay (did my mates head in haha) then wrapped the front of the car to double make sure haha, will be difficult rolling it into the ovens but hey ho

(Car has full engine undercover too)

Taking it back to bare metal, using a black coloured Primer to help hide any future stonechips

    Cheers mate

New paint was just me been super OCD i guess..

i had a few age related stone chips to the front, and planned on just re painting this part. One of my best friends owns a bodyshop, he told me he wanted to paint the whole car. Think he wanted to put his name to the car really and he sorted me such a great price i could not refuse.

A few pics of where we are at with the car as per yesterday

Got the remaining parts prepaired up and into primer (used Black primer)

Then got the Black coat on too

Then Started to flattern down and polish up the parts

whilst he was on with that i took the chance to roll the shell outside and check to see if my superb engine covering up kept all the dust away - it has to perfection not a spec of dust in sight
