She knocked my front door to tell me the sun blinded her and she didn't see my car parked on the road and ran into the back of it I only MOT'd it 5 days before and put 2 new tyres on in December. Here it is in it's 'former' glory :- To say i am gutted is an understatement.
On the plus side she told you she did it instead of driving off, I've had to do that before. Unfortunately you'll have trouble finding another that clean.
oh no what a nightmare.... i love those bbs golfs, rarer than oak green. At least she had the decency to come and say.... seeing as its her insurance company and it is a car that you can't just go and buy to replace make them fix it....
I've already come to the conclusion that i'm going to struggle finding another Mk2 as nice for sensible money. I am grateful she knocked the door though. Very rare nowadays. I suppose another plus is the BBS kit managed to get away unscathed.
i wouldn`t let it out of my sight to be honest, make the assessor come out to a bodyshop of your choosing, then take it somewhere secure untill your happy with any settlement. also a few things sent by pm truely gutted.
Unfortunately the car is already at a salvage yard because I don't have a a drive or garage to keep the car in, and it was insecure. So I had no option but to get the insurance company to collect it rather than run the risk of some low life climbing through the hatch and nicking the car. As yet I haven't had a sniff of an offer. It happened on the 10th.
im sure as the other person is at fault you can demand that they fix it, they cant just take your property off you as they have no claim over it.
true but things go walkies in yards. trust no one. i guess your waiting on a assessor, or the body shop to quote for repair. i demanded to deal with a local guy and via a third party claim management system (britannia assist) - the body shop upped the cost of the repair to intentionally write it off (i liked), the assessor was around in 3 days i was payed out in 10 days. as these calim management people are only intrested in settling as quick as possible because thats how they make thier money. if i had gone with the insurance approved body shop it would have taken a month to get a quote, then await an assessor - would have taken a while
exactly.... they have to leave you in the same situation you were in when she hit you. With a nice shiney black bbs kitted golf. When my dad got knocked off his bike, he claimed for everything, and I mean everything. His bag that had a scuff, his 200 sunglasses that had a slight scratch from the visor etc etc, they kicked up but had to pay for it. Why should he/you be left worse off because they can't drive properly??
Your granny, or someone else's? I'm sure the sun shining off your polished paintwork was the real cause of the dazzling, so technically, it's your fault Having said that, call the cops and get the old bat banned. If she's driving into parked cars she must be half blind. Then start gathering evidence of how valuable similar cars are. You will have to fight with the insurance to get a decent settlement.
only reason sun wouldve blinded her is if shes driving with an iced/fogged up windscreen, which is an offence in itself.
That's a real shame that is/was one lovely Mk2, you'll need to push for the genuine replacement value which will clearly be a lot more than the book value. One minor plus point in terms of value is the new MOT. Good luck with the claim.
I had a chat with my insurance today and the chap echoed the sentiments here regarding finding similar conditioned Golfs for decent money to contest the rubbish offer I will no doubt get.
My very first MK2 went in exactly the same way. Old guy was driving along and was blinded by the sun, and smacked straight into my parked car.
Truley gutted for you mate... I love them BBS Mk2's, as MK3 Valver said above They are rare as anything... Hope you can get it sorted mate...
