Any idea why the ECU was knackered? Did you do the VR conversion yourself or was it done already/by someone you know? The reason I ask is that I believe the main cause for knackered ECU's is a bad Engine/gearbox earth and the starter motor tried to earth through the low current circuits around the engine and fries part of the ECU. (Or I might be talking complete b'llox as usual )
Whats the difference between an 8 valve and 16 valve pump?Is it the pressures they produce?Surely the 16 valve one would be more uprated? Is it a second hand ecu or reconditioned? Is it VW dealer you've booked in at macca?
What used to happen on the Mk2 Gtis a bad earth to the gearbox-usually made worse if somebody has just fitted a clutch and had the lead off!Next thing you know is it wont run, mate of mine had this and it had burnt out the fuel pump switching side inside the E.C.U!
One of our regional members had a head gasket replaced on his VR6 and they had trouble getting the timing right when they put it back together, sounds like your problem to me. Just check it again before buying any expensive parts
The ECU was a brand new one Jim had in stock so he sold it me for 200. The 8v pump can do up to 7 bar which is miles more than the 8v. I supplied an 8v pump but there was a vital bit missing so i ended up with a brand new pump anyway.
Im back from Awesome. All i can say is MONEY WELL SPENT!!!! Its fecking awesome!!!! I cant believe the difference, i thought i had a small problem but it was a big one and now its sorted the car just flies, its fecking rapid, i cant believe i put up with it how it was for so long. I honestly reckon i'd do my mates S3 that i use in a straight line (maybe).
Well, just imagine how much it would have cost buying the bits from VW!You'll have to take me for a spin now its sorted!!
Nice one Ian! glad its sorted. Got mine back from specialist electrics place today and they could find nothing wrong it [:^(] . Although Hall/Cam/Phase sensor is showing as a fault, he checked it and its working fine, along with everything else. He also said i had very low manifold vacuum pressure ??!!?? was only 10 inches instead of 18 inches. And i needed to find out what was causing this. Anyone know anything about this? Rang the ORIGINAL garage to explain, and he is keeping to his word and will take the engine apart to see if he has put it back wrongly next tuesday. all comments gratefully received as usual guys do you have any more info on your regional members problem Matt? Cheers
You should do mate your car is much lighter and S3's are not as fast as they look. Go and frighten TT's, it will be worth every penny - lol.
Macca, check the brake servo pipe that goes onto the front right of your inlet manifold, could be part of the problem if its split
Cheers mate!!I dont have a digicam plus i wouldnt have a clue anyway-i'm useless when it comes to computers!!You still need to come for a spin in mine anyway and have a listen to it
Cant wait mate, mine even sounds alot better as well, i supose it would though after gaining 50bhp over night
Its a Vento 2.8VR6.Its got a Ram-air induction kit,2.9 throttle body gas flowed, supersprint de-cat pipe and full sebring. But it does have 167,000 miles on it now!!!
