I have a contact in wolfsberg who told me the following.....

"the 16v mk3 was a cynical marketing ploy aimed at buyers who read far too much into quoted bhp figures, but are too tight to buy a VR6."

    16v & vr6 are all gutless....nice on motorways.
after you have driven a mk1 or mk2 with 150+ bhp.

i had the vtec rep from tokyo on the phone earlier. he hung up the moment i mentioned power delivery below 4.5krpm.

hed love the 16v though, barely enough torque to move

yeah... but shame only one mk2 actually came with over 150bhp as standard so what you're saying doesn't really count tbh....[:[]

btw, read my previous post. a mk2 with 150bhp still isn't as quick as a mk3 vr6.

i've driven tons of mk2's and a few mk1's and tbh they REALLY show their age these days, ropey as ****, rattley as ****, horrifically **** brakes (especially the mk1) and noisy (in a bad way).

in terms of contemporary design, the leap from mk2 to mk3 was a ****in huge one tbh.

My mk2 with 180bhp was near dead on as quick as a vr. But as standard cars I spose they have no chance!

well, if you're comparing standard for standard....vr is gonna get ****ed on once they get to a corner

my most recent mk2 had no rattles, and had good brakes....and it was o.e. and cost 100!

driving enjoyment?? mk2 with 180 or mk3 VR6??? only one winner even if it rattles and is noisy!!! can see your point though b'locks in terms of refinement a 93 plate MK3 is a million times better than a 92 plate mk2

too right. my mk2 is tip top, not a rattle in the entire car so mr mk3 vr6, youve either driven utter lemons or you need to sit down and give your mouth a chance to speak

and at the end of it all, a vr6 has less than a 1/10 the torque an 8v has. fact

well ive been in MK4 golfs that feel like a bag of sh*t, its all down to the individual car and how its been looked after and driven so we shouldn't really go down that debate me thinks lol
