    16valve mk3s are great, but not f**kin awesome, i had a dragon green one, loved it, but my atlas mk2 8valve is so much more poky, more fun to drive where the mk3 was a bit boring compared, still find mk3 16vs betta than the vr6 mk3 tho, handling is betta due to not having such a heavy lump up front. MK2 8VALVE [:D]

    so your mk2 is in good nick. therefore every other mk2 is in good nick too and therefore i must have only driven lemons. right.

    :lol: :lol: :lol:

    madness :lol:

    8v = 166nm @ 2600rpm
    16v = 180nm @ 4800rpm
    vr6 = 240nm @ 4200rpm

    :lol:

    simple fact is and always will be that the 16v has more torque and power than an 8v, but then you'll grow up and realise that you don't want to be screaming the nuts of your engine to use its performance so you'll either get an 8v for the better economy and insurance benefits or a VR6 for the performance.

    here endeth the lesson.

    so you judge performance straight line speed do you then??? :o

    hows this for you.... the original golf gti was such a phenomenon due to a great blend of
    light weight, powerful engine, great handling.

    Any Mk3 cannot be called a light weight, but here is the problem with the 8v...

    It does not have a powerful engine.... they did a bottom of the range mk4 1.6 with more power!!!

    The VR6 is the furthest of the three away from being light weight, and has the worst handling of the three, esp as it was mainly ment for motorway miles.

    The 16v MK3 is the closest in breed to the original, and is the most GTI out of all three. Which is why i bought mine, not because I couldn't afford a VR6 as I could have just got a year older VR6 for a same money....

    so there... :p :p :p

    FAO any 16v owners, you should go to the following site

    www.parknride.co.uk

    you can drive to a place out of town and catch a bus in, it eases congestion and means you dont have to go through the ordeal of driving your torqueless 16v into town :(

    well its important to me cos i drive it so much. mine went past 177k lastnight. i do 300-400 a week just going to work and generally thrashing the car for fun, if it drank significantly more it would cost to much

    i get to have lots of fun for my money

    ah dunno lol.... how ever many L are in a tank, i reckon it'll still be better than yours, it has to be, SOMETHING has to be! ;)

    im on 36.5mpg at the moment. maybe i'll leave the car poorly, it seems to run more fuel efficently like that.

    no, surprisingly enough it's possible to apply the throttle and change direction at the same time.

    However if this was your prime motive for buying your car you'd have overlooked even the dynamic masterpiece that is a mk3 valver and bought a 306 :thumbup:
