Jenveys on Mk2 ABF, what do I need?

    Picked up a new car to take the engine!

    Its an 83 lhd 1600 gti from an old German couple a few miles down the road from me.

    I'm going to keep it lhd, it would be a shame to go messing with it.

    Not sure what to do with the manifold, Powersprint do 2 into 1 downpipe that mates up to their 60mm group a system and its about half the price of a fourbranch so I might go with that.

    I have a genuine vr6 crank sensor ordered and picked up a distributor blank too.

    Its just the exhaust I need now and I must sort out what I'm going to do with the driveshafts.

    Right, I want to get stuck into this conversion next week hopefully and want to make sure I have everything covered.

    Throttle bodies mounted, fuel rail, injectors, throttle linkage, air temp sender and tps all fitted.

    New vr crank sensor fitted.

    Distributor blank fitted.

    Peugeot coil pack fitted.

    8v mk3 alternator and bracket fitted.

    Adjustable fuel pressure regulator ready to go.

    Four branch and full system ready to go on.

    020 16v gearbox fitted with 16v Sachs sport clutch.

    DTA E48 ecu ready with loom, relay, wiring diagram and comms cable.

    Wideband lambda controller with sensor and display.

    I just want to get it fitted and hopefully running someway decent, I still need an airfilter setup and a catch tank/breather.

    Is there anything else I have missed?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Sounds good! Looking forward to seeing the finished article.
    Have you sorted a vacuum take off for the brake servo?
    This is something I've just sorted myself as I over looked it until recently.

    Is that just a half inch bsp fitting?

    What length ram pipes are fitted in the pic?

    How much did therad cost if you don't mind me asking, pm if you like?

    I'll get an oil cooler at some stage but I just want to get it running well at the moment.

    Cheers Brookster for the pictures, saved me posting mine up :lol:

    I used a 1/8" NPT fitting. I think thats what Brookster is using too.

    Any barbed fitting will do the trick will do,just match the bore to the size of vacuum pipe you're planning to use.
    This is the one I used but in hindsight I think a straight one like Brookster is using may have been better. LINK

    Just drilled and tapped no4 :thumbup:


    I may be wrong but I think those ram pipes are 120mm

    They are Tight under the Bonnet if your fitting them in a MK1 and don't leave any room for any filters apart from Filter Socks :o

    Right lads, I have powered up the DTA E48 ecu and I'm trying to connect it to my laptop.

    I have a usb comms cable and have installed the software tat came with it.

    I have downloaded the software for the E48 from the DTA site.

    Every time I try to connect I get error 8002 invalid port number, Ihave tried all the usb ports on the laptop and still no go.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    you need to check which serial port (COM1->COM???) the USB serial cable is using (check in the device manager). Then setup the software to use the same port.

    Just sorting out the wiring on the DTA loom, it has a 2 pin connector for the crank sensor that I have to change to 3 pn.

    Can anyone help me identify the pins on the new VR sensor, its a genuine sensor with a white block connector if that makes any difference.

    I'll try and get a photo up in a minute, I haven't got anything else wired up at the moment so I can't crank it over to test it with a multimeter.

    The sensor Im using:

    Its wiring diagram looks like this:

    The pin layout is as follows:
    (colours correspond to the original VAG wiring loom)

    pin 1 (T3m/1) - grey (gr) - SIGNAL
    pin 2 (T3m/2) - blue (bl) - REF. GROUND
    pin 3 (T3m/3) - black (sw) - SHIELD GROUND

    On the DTA loom, the 2 pin crank sensor connection has two wires, a black (GROUND) and white (SIGNAL) (your loom may be different if DTA did not make it). So pin 1 on the VAG sensor goes to the white DTA loom wire, pin 2 goes to the black DTA loom wire.

    You can work out which pins are used on the VAG sensor by ohm'ing out the pins to see which ones give you a resistance. Pin 1 and 2 in this case. Although knowing exactly what each pin does is more useful when it comes to wiring it up, less hassle that way. Means you dont have to chop and change the wiring if you connect it up incorrectly at first.

    re alternator setup. i use gates belt: Gates micro V 6PK893

    re supressor on sagem coil pack: peugeot pt no. ptno 6555.K9 (about a fiver:thumbup:)
