Here's a pic, the red arrow points to the hose I think you're talking about which isn't bunged up. While that pic is there I thought someone might know what the thing the green arrow is pointing to is?? it would of been under the old airbox and has some cables and sort of a clear hose coming from it??
the red arrow is bad news. im not surpsied its running bad. get rid of the black hose and plug the hole asap
the green thing is the carbon canister. no one really knows what the does but its not that important. at the top right of your pic you have a black and white striped hose. that is a vac hose going to the ECU. that needs to be tip top too. by the oil filler you have an HT lead. next to that is another vac hose going to the fuel pressure reg. make sure that is tip top too
Awesome, cheers guys. I've got some new hose coming so i daresay they'll get replaced to make sure they're alright. Im still at work so i'm going to see if i can find something round the office to temporarily bung it and see if it runs any better on the way home!
my pipercross kit came with a little cap. you took off the whole black hose and you capped the nipple. black celotape should work with a vac leak like that youll really notice it when its fixed. where has your intake temp sensor gone?
Cunning.. small brass screw from the earth pin of a plug socket.. screwed into the end of the hose mwuhaha
wicked. that stopped the leak? clever actually! now start the engine. get some spit on your finger and see if it it sucked in around the screw. if not, take it for a drive and see if its cured? if so, ill PM you with my address for you to forward the cheque to
I'll look for something to take the hose off completely and cap it when I can, might even see if K&N will flog me one to get the job done right. As I said before about me and engines.. I'm learning a fair bit but i've no idea about an intake temp sensor? No idea where one is supposed to be??
Finish work in a couple of hours so i'll start her up take it for a spin then on the way home, was going to use a normal screw but then i thought, having a wide thread, it would still leak. The small screw has a fine thread and screwed right into the end of the hose, no chance of it leaking! If this cures the problem i'm going to marry you! ..Maybe not, but it'd be pretty cool if it was sorted!
i expect itll leak a little bit, but there must be a better way. it will be better tho as for marriage. dont bother suggesting that, once you start working on the car, you wont have time for friends, life, marriage, that sorta thing
Just emailed K&N UK up in cheshire hoping they can get me a cap. I'm quite concerned about the intake temp sensor comment now though!
cannot see the air intake temp sensor at all it normally plugs into the airbox just before the rubber trunk joins. it tells the ecu the air temp, which in turn controls timing. without it, it will act odd. sure its not poked into the filter? its a probe thats on a 2 pin plug.
that could be that then get out there n test it... going out on testing runs theyre the best (when they work)
Well i doubt that very much haha but i'll post tomorrow and let you know if it's done the trick. Got some town driving to do so i'll soon notice if the judders go or not
Well it certainly seems to run a fair bit better now, not massive improvements but i think the hose i've blocked is broke further up
Well I received an email back from K&N after my brown-nosing after the cap for the throttle body, they've asked me what my engine is so i'm guessing tat means they're going to send me a freebie woohoo Got some red silicone hose today and replaced the hose from the inlet manifold to the ECU. The old one was all soft in places and crispy at others (I had to use a stanley knife to cut the hose off at the ECU end!). Then I spotted another manky looking soft hose which i thought could do with replacing but I'm not sure what hose it is, it goes from the inlet manifold to some sort of sensor, temp sensor is it?? It's where the red line i've drawn on the pic below is. You can see my lovely new red silicone hose i've just replaced too
the one you have marked is for the fuel pressure reg. again vital to have a good connection. whats good to do is to spit on your finger then put the spit around the end of the hose... if thereis a vac leak then the spit gets sucked up. i have fuel line clips on mine to prevent the leaks. see the top of your throttle body there are two hoses... one fat one thinner one. the thinner one is the one you need to plug. you may as well take the thinner hose off all together and cap the nipple.
