I'd guess, although not seen detailed pics yet, that the inner arches have been tubbed slightly. Definately seems like an easier way to do it than the way i did the rear arch previously, which was a right faff to do! They've got a new metal bending/stretching/shrinking machine/tool, so my arches are a bit of an experiment! Looks like its worked though
I'm going to chuck a spoke in on this 'Berg' nomenclature thing! [] 'Berg' is the series. 'Group 2' is the now-defunct (since '82/'83) wide arch FIA category of more modified cars, which used the arch kits that the Berg Cup is full of. Group 2 long pre-dates Berg! HTH !
Looks like you dropped on the right team with this Dan, love the work they are doing for you. Is it coming back blasted, treated and painted?
I've only ever seen one other Mk1 Jetta with wide arches, a rallycross car Chris once posted pics of. Should be pretty unique The arches are copied off Group 2 BMW and Audi racers, so maybe its a Group 2 replica of a car that never existed Yep, dead happy with them, good bunch of lads. It'll be coming back blasted and primed. First job is to paint the underside and inside floor with galvanising paint, then its source and fit a floor mounted pedal box, then fit power steering and then lower the steering column, then sort out a mount for the gearshift. Once i've finished drilling holes and welding bits and bobs and of course making the manifold with Sambo, it'll be stripped down and stuck back on the spit and the underside painted whilst all the running gear is refurbished ready to go back on. Once its rolling i'll paint the inside and get it running, and last thing will be to get the outside painted. The lads really want to paint it and said they'd fit it in between projects, so I can see it going back some time in the future for its final coat. Might be a while though.....
Here: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1567027&postcount=79 I can't remember the source. Could be from Rallycross yearbooks I have on loan from the Reeves. I've just flicked through the 1981 issue, and how spooky is this? What I think is the same car... is an 8v turbo Herbert Grunsteidl if you fancy a Google!
http://www.gruensteidl.de/ looks like he also drove the works mk1 car (vw jetta txt just above it) I asked if he has any more info on the jetta or works car.
Busted by CSI CGTI in 9 minutes flat! You're slacking Mike! I'll line up a scanning fest for a motorsport thread!
Cheers bud, can't wait to see it all in one colour for the full effect, even if its going to be primer Thanks
Well, after getting 3 hours sleep last night and waking up at 5.30 this morning to go and meet Sambo for todays Curby excursions, i thought the day might turn out to be a hard one. Thankfully the drive down was effortless, the days racing and meeting up with folk was brilliant - i didn't stop smiling all day - and i got third fastest time to boot, which was a bonus Traffic on the way home was crap so stopped at the services for a quick rest and to let the traffic get going again, and had a quick check of the Retro Power website. I havn't stopped smiling all the way home - i'll let the pics do the talking: Rest of the journey was fine and every traffic light after i got off the motorway was green - awesome! Its been an ace day today
