ah, i've got a better one for my mk3 polo, but this is just for once the paints been done to stop it getting covered in dust whilst in the college workshops, the first years have a couple of mr2s that seem to be more filler than metal, so my car always has a layer of **** on it
i agree, those workshops are always dusty have you seen the mr2 recently, covered in a layer of **** i'll tell bruce to get his marigolds and pink fluffy duster out tomrrow morning for yah
Here's today's progress, got to weld the rear arches up, and then put the coilovers on (and rear axle) then its ready for a little trip to littlehampton to be sprayed next week
i believe the theory is that it will draw air through the grill and cool the engine. also on cars with a turbo (as this one will be iirc) it'll let the heat that rises from the turbo get out.
It's going to be sprayed Jazz Blue hopefully... There are two reasons for the bonnet lift at the back, one is to help get the air out the engine bay. And i'm running solid top mounts from a mk3 polo g40 cup car, and a standard mk1 bonnet will foul on these, so by lifting at the back means i get the clearance i need. Thanks for the comments
Good work Yoof, hadn't seen this version of the build thread as I don't come on here much these days. I can verify that raising the rear edge of the bonnet on my mk1 polo made the difference between overheating and cool running. Very surprising difference. I wonder how much bribery it'll take to get Clive to 'accidentally' paint it pink...
Yeah I figured that. The problem is that the area just under the windscreen is a high pressure area, meaning that air will be entering, not exiting through there. Many people think that it is a vakuum area - but it's not. This is why the intakes for the ventilation is placed there. So you'll have air entering through the front grille (as usual) and from the back making a bunch of turbulence in the bay, and then exiting under the car (as usual). It will most likely still provide some sort of cooling - but it will not create a flow through the bay as such. The clearance issue is a very valid point though . Cheers!
On my mk1 cooling on the move was never a problem, but when stationary it would creep up. Tilting the bonnet means the hot air from the fan has an extra escape route and the problem vanishes. I also get luxury heated windscreen wipers into the bargain
it's easy to confuse jazz blue and jazzmag pink. is your polo finished yet jbmg? i remember seeing pics of it in a nearly finalised state (wheels, doors, arches etc all on) but i think there was still some engine work to do prior to finishing.
what a project!!! looks like you are making plenty of progress! Lovin the polo, my bro is running a mk3 GT v v similar to yours- have you heard of the Fahvergnugen Tuning chip dont know if it will be applicatble to you if you are using TB set up? http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=3635here is link anyway. gota say your garage facilities are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! keep us updated
10? You cheeky fecker! I guess that'll do, I'm skint again, as usual! I've given up as management on that MR2 project, I've let Dan Jackson take over and I've moved over onto design, so hopefully dan will be able to get some sort of prgress made in the next few weeks. As for the filler, thasts the other group. Ours is pure rust. Looks like you're making good progress though, haven't been down there in a while to have a look!
It's on the road....almost! Lack of an anti roll bar means wheels are pointing in any direction (should be called a 'keep it together bar') and i've just realised i need some more suitable wheels, getting sprayed next week
woooooo yeah. cant wait to see that in action. will you do a video so we can have a butchers once its finished, maybe at a rwyb day. would love to see it roast an unsuspecting competitor.
