No work done on the Golf this weekend. Turned it over and took some pics of the other bodywork I want sorting out to show the bodyshop.

    Usual wiper blank:

    Typical fuel flap:

And a previous owners botched repair on the nearside rear quarter/tail light area that I want sorting:

Hope to get a feeler on prices over the next few weeks to get it all sorted.

Well my mates mk2 didn't have as bad rust as yors around the filler cap itself but the inner arch where the fuel tanks bolts was shot, but recoverable.

Its worth taking the fuel tank out to get it properly clean and sealed up there.

hi ian. i know this has been asked a thousand times before, but apart from the flange fittment, was there any issues with the raceland manifold hitting the pas or bulkhead?

also, what lower cambelt cover did you use? pb or 2e? iv used passat upper but still have no lower!

This update had been a long time in coming! Diy has got in the way and we now have a nice new bathroom. Not going to complain to much as the weather has been poo to be messing around with the car. Bodyshop trip is still looming but been on the back burner a little waiting for the weather to warm up.

So with the sunshine this weekend I did my door membrains. Didn't find it all that hard and the proper VW adhesive is spot on, like a rubber compound that gives you enough time to push and pull it around but once its stuck it stuck. May not look great but there well sealed!

Then built the door cards back up.

I've fixed my door speakers up to some new grilles and there all ready to back in next weekend depending on how stock take goes at work.

Were your membranes leaking? I've found out my car has no membrane at all.

No but they didn't peel off the old doors in one piece so I had to replace.

    I'm ready whenever you are!:)

Fitted the front speakers back in the doors today and fitted the 1/4 trims behind the mirrors. Then started to strip the rear trims out ready for the tailgate to be removed, but one thing led to another and I ended up like this:

 The wiring holes have both started to rot so these will be tidyed up and moss had set in.

Set to that with some polish and cleaned up the tailgate opening all the way around. Looks good now.

Dug out my freshly painted tailgate so next job is to swap all the internal bits and pieces over.

I also pulled the seal out round the filler neck and had a good stab around with a screw driver. Half a field of dry mud fell out but except the very edge the rust doesn't seem that serious.
