79 inc vat for the cooler
34 inc vat for the thermoblock
and the connections and 3m of hosing cost about 20.

Jon - i rang up loads of different places, including think automotive who know everything there is to know about oil coolers, and apparently theres just only one temperature setting on them all.

He assures me that even with the oil cooler open, it shouldnt drop to below 85 deg. We shall see, im going to install it tonight [:D]

    not a bad price, [:D]

as others have said it just seems a weird temp, even the std mk1 cooler doesn't open till the oil is a lot hotter than that.

but you'll be able to tell us when you get in it and running.

You want it to open lower though - it's designed for cars that need as much help as possible to cool down [8-}]

Golden, the Mocal hoses are not jubilee/push fit connections - they are proper threaded pressure conections.

Tubs, have a closer look at my pics mate. They push on (with great difficulty! [:s] ) and jubilee clip up.

Maybe you can get 2 different types of connection? You got a close up pic of yours tub?

They are one way puch on fittings, and with jubilee clips they will be fine.

I dont understand why you can even begin to think there may be a problem...... [:s]

Because i have seen them fail numerous times on equipment at work.

Experience over theory on this one Andy ;)

If I might add my 2p and hopefully put Rich's mind at rest.

I've run numourous engines using oil coolers connected with hose clips. If there's any weak spot I've found it to be the hose itself, particularly if forced to go through tight turns. I've never had a joint even leak let alone fail with the those type of fittings and double hose clips.

but the oil is never going to get hot if it opens up at 80.

which surely must be under the standard operating temp for what ever oil rich is using. [:s]

    Mocals comments.....

"It is therefore desirable to control of the oil flow through the cooler by a thermostatic device, we call an oilstat, set to divert oil to the cooler at 80C (although a wide range of settings is available for special applications). This is the minimum temperature required to evaporate and dispel contaminating substances".
