I was just busy looking over on SCN to see how Bill got on today - DNF, parked at Folly it seems - but check this unrelated incident out (Simon Norris btw): F*cked: In car vid of how it was done : http://www.bhpcars.co.uk/mlr/Combe-crash.wmv
Seemed a bit silly to try an overtake there, but I guess he suffered from a bit of understeer and a nasty bump off the curb.
thats a mad smash... looks like he was thinking of going down the inside, turned too early and power understeering off the grass... theres a nasty bump on that corner...[:^(]
just think how many cars are built with MORE power (and idiot drivers to boot) that don't have a roll cage. it doesn't bear thinking about what state he'd have been in with no cage.
Ironic I was looking at his roll cage (excellent) in the paddock before hand... Saved his life. BUT to also say that same accident last year would have likely resulted in spectator deaths on the pit wall. New catch fencing and large concrete wall most definately saved people. They did get showered in debris/coolant etc from Norris's EVO mounting the fencing. Sadly also a very avoidable accident. Novis driver, in a very fast evo, not taking into account the slower car being lapped, just maximum attack not wanting to loose ground to the cars in front (significantly more experienced drivers in front of him). Him not looking far enough ahead through the corner. Feel for the poor girl driving her own race in that 106(?), doing nothing wrong, and being smacked by Norris's EVO on full chat understeer mode.... hope it has'nt put her off racing. 2nd big EVO related accident @ combe this year. They are blindingly fast cars on the same track as class D up to 1400cc cars, with a huge mix of driver ability/speed. Recipe for incidents IMHO. Closing speed differentials are big. 1m14s laps by EVO's now. Road tyres remember! Wondering what after effect there might be following this accident. Questions and paddock discussions were rife yesterday afterwards.
never seen a car fly like that before . bloody stupid trying to overtake there tho , and as bill said i feel sorry for the pug driver
its kicking off on MLR forum which typically blames the pug for the incident.. form those who were'nt even there.. DOH! To be fair to simon norris he has posted he accepts the blame for the incident, whilst also saying at the time it was unavoidable.. (well I agree with 1/2 what he said) and he has also offered 1000 to Chrissy to repair her pug which is a very gratious gesture. He is under no obligation to do anything like this, so respect to him for that. I have joined in... and dont think I will be on norris's xmas card list now. oh dear. []
I don't think there was anything wrong with his decision to overtake there; the pug was clearly over to the outside of the circuit to allow the faster cars through. He just didn't take enough care in pulling it off. Seems to me he just gives it too much power and washes wide into the Pug. I don't understand how that managed to send him flying into the air though. Would need to see a vid from outside to appreciate the true cause and effect.
