i don't think when he passed his test is relevant altho i'm going for less than a year- shall we make a poll?!
of course its relative...when we passed our tests we all thought we were brilliant drivers, experience now shows how wrong we were, right? i'll vote for the under a year bracket as well.
I'll vote for the first couple of years. I drove like a total twat for about a year or two, I'm actually embarrassed by it now but I've calmed down a lot in the intervening 13 years..... People in volvos get wound up following me and overtake I'm that calm. (not kidding either)
Strange this one... Personally the FASTER my car(S) became the SLOWER i generally drove/drive. My 999cc Uno Fire Sport (lmfao) got ragged EVERYWHERE -- and i drove like a arse all the time Golf 8v GTI Got ragged quite a bit, but was probably 50/50 thrashing and normal driving. Drove fast mainly where it was a lot safer to do so. Golf 2.0 16v GTI gets ragged a couple of times a week. 90% of the time it's pootling around below 3.5k rpm.
i haven't laughed so much in ages, not since that geezer harped on about his 1.0 corsa beating a 1.3 fiesta...lads...get lives and keep your own!
i know what you mean...the main reason is that if you rag a fast car you're gonna be doing quite redicuolous speeds everywhere. but heres a weird twist...if i drive a slower car than my vr6 now, i don't rag it...i just cruise along, but NEVER slow for anything! oh, and when i've been on track recently i don't drive fast at all on the road either.
I'm like that with the track thing. When i've done a track day i stay dead slow on the road for months after. The roads just bore you.. no grip at all on them!
just what I was about to type... a 'moment' on track proves that you dont have the luxury of space to correct it in if you did the same on the road.
Im the same, since iv done a few track days I generally drive slower on the road. I keep my GTI for weekend fun and track driving and cruise round in my mk4 the rest of the time! Iv a few mates who started racing Karts after a few of their friends and people they knew were killed doing silly things on the road. They drive so much slower on the road now because they have that release of ragging a car in a relatively safe environment at the weekend. To some extent this is one of the reasons I started doing Track days. Sean
