Really hope the "hamster" pulls through this! [:^(] He come's across as a very likeable person & not a bad egg at all! been to elvington a few times & its not far from leeds hospital by air so hopefully he's in good hand's
They say he was doing speeds of over 300mph. Hope he is ok? Typical of Quentin Wilson to say on the news "I think they have stepped over the mark this time", nope Mr Wilson your just jealous that they got you off the program for being a d*ck.
Hope he pulls through, Claire and myself met him breifly at the filming of TG last year, seemed a nice bloke. No suprise the Sun says he was doing 315mph this morning...
Maybe now TG will stick to doing stories about real cars, and stop with the crap on caravans, boats and stupid stunts. More supercars racing each other please [think drag race against Veyron, Enzo, F1 etc], or stories on car cultures the world over - be it the Vdubs in the UK or drifting in Japan. That stupid stupid 30 mins [of the hour program] on vans was just a waste of my life. TG has been searching for ratings for too long and forgetting the car enthusiast. Anyway, that's not what this thread is about. Richard lives quite close to me and you often see him in Homebase [even with James May once!]. Hope he recovers real fast, cos he is wicked on TG
Interesting points there BUG - let me start a thread debating the format of Top Gear using that quote, since this thread's definitely to chat about Richard Hammond. http://www.clubgti.com/FORUM/showthread.php?p=1061203#post1061203
Regarding Richard Hammond, I'm totally totally gutted like everyone else. Terrible news. Top Gear has provided us with some amazingly diverse petrolhead-based entertainment, and Hammond is a cornerstone of it. Something like this incident makes you realise how good these people are - and as Georgeous George said above, Hammond is "a legend". When you think back at all the stuff they have all done on TG - it's off the scale, unforgettable stuff. In 10 years time, I am sure the last 3-4 years of Top Gear will still remain unforgettable. Clearly we will all wish him a great recovery. Fingers crossed. We can only wonder what will be the consequences for Top Gear, and something less obvious is the NEC & Earls Court www.mphshow.co.uk which is in late Oct and early Nov. Latest news (9:25 am) here and here and here
Latest: Jeremy Clarkson: "James May and I are at the hospital in Leeds where Richard remains in intensive care. He said in a statement that Hammond and his family were "the most important concerns we have". "I would just like to say how heartened Richard will be when I tell him just how many motorists and truck drivers on my way here wound down their windows to say they were rooting for him." Referring to Hammond by his nickname, Clarkson added: "Both James and I are looking forward to getting our 'hamster' back."
In light of this event, would posting this link here be considered bad taste? http://tinyurl.com/jhlbj
Pistonheads seems to be leading the forum discussion on this one - 40 pages now. There's a reasonably light hearted jpeg on p38 of the thread in the style of Top Gear which I think is in keeping with the work they do - I won't post it here in case people's views differ, but you know where it is...
A mate of a mate of mine set up a donation page this morning to raise money and say thank you to the air ambulance that Took the hamster to the hospital after yesterdays smash. He wants to raise 340 to cover the costs of 1 trip of the unit. http://www.justgiving.com/PHRichardHammond
