Did you buy a second hand welder and just practice to do stuff like that? So tempted to do this kind of work myself but never know if its the kind of thing unless you spend proper on the gear then you'll never be able to weld strong enough or well enough for body work purposes?

I did most of the Golf with a billion jiggawatt stick welder belonging to the guys we used to share the unit with, having never picked up a welder before, pretty steep learning curve, I burnt a LOT of holes and f*cked it up SO many times, that took a lot of practice!

Now I'm using a typical Clarke gasless mig welder I borrowed off a mate, and in comparison it's the easiest thing in the world to use [:D]

Just get a mig with about 110-130powers and practice, practice, practice, it's the only way to learn!

Another action packed day of patching up rust!

Then thought I'd tackle the A pillar on the drivers side which didn't look that bad... Fortuantely the rest of that section was ok unlike the other side! Bit of digging around in the hole revealed it was made mostly of filler with a carrier bag stuffed in the hole [:[]

Lots of filler, but at least there's metal under it this time!

Better  Still needs another skim of filler but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out!

That's the front end sorted now anyway :)

Like what you are doing Jolfa.

Don't suppose you have thought of converting it to two doors? I always thought a two door 90 would have been a nicer car than the Coup!;)

Nah, you can get them anyway so it'd be pretty stupid making one! They look so out of proportion too [:p]

quality project will look gangsta when its done  even like the colour!

always thought a 2.5 v6 tdi would make a good daily engine for an old audi.. 180bhp/370Nm as standard and 210bhp/420Nm with a remap :o with all that torque be almost like driving an 8v..

Every 6 pot I've ever driven has been a massive disappointment.

5 pot 20v turbo ftmfw, 220bhp standard good for 1000bhp with enough work/money!

    And I can't stand the colour, it's awful [:p]

nato colours are for hippies.. you need some sort of badass paint like they use on b2 bombers. given the 90s chiseled exterior you might even ghost through the plod radar thingys with that stuff

    [8D] Hadn't considered yellow lights...

Won't go down too well amongst the Audi purists when I paint it anyway, proper rare colour that yellow... Rare for a reason, but rare nonetheless!

Whatever colour you paint it, it will look better than the original Audi colours, except white!

My 90 Q 20V is Mettalic Aquamarine. So were lots of BMW and Mercs, of that period. Horrible colour. [xx(]

When I get around to it I shall paint it Massey Ferguson grey.

Nothing quite like the heart sinking feeling when wire wheeling rust back and then hitting filler...

I've never seen so much filler used to fill a hole, this dropped out the back of it (the filler not the pliers [:p] ) -

Then the hole in the C pillar -

Aaaand a nice big bit of surface rust in the door shut that actually brushed back nicely, minimal filler there...

Unfortunately it's the same the other side and there's a hole at the bottom of that one :(

Ever start a job and wish you hadn't...?
