Aaaah thats a different fault - so the current is reaching the starter motor okay, but its not spinning the engine as it should....

to get over the fact that it stumbles when starting... put a GTD starter on it.. :)

Won't a GTD starter require more power...?

No, The coil bolted on the starter itself is larger, and induces more power on its own..

yeh timing could be too advanced... bit if it doesnt pink when running under load, id rather upgrade the starter and therfore keep the advance for more power..[:D]

if the timing isnt wrong, dont fix it...:p

I've not looked at the earth to the ECU - suppose it'll just need cleaning up?

I might get the timing checked in that case - that'll be a 10 job at my local garage? Just out of interest, why would the timing cause that delay?

i wouldnt bother with the timing if it never pinked when driving.. its obviously going to be fine..unless its retarded but then the car would fire up quite rapidly:lol:

earth to the ecu... and how would that only do it when its cold?

too advanced would make it hard to start the car as a starter only cranks like 200rpm or so.. and the advance is set for idle speed, where it just about runs at 800rpm without pinking. so if its trying to run a car at 200rpm, to bring it up to idle, the advance is somewhat exagerated:lol:.. I dont think it would be as little as a tenner:lol:

Mine never pinked when drivin just wouldn't start, you can turn dizzy back yourself if you have a 10 mm spanner, it should idle at 1000 rpm

The car always starts - the engine turns for a split second, then delays, and then turns as normal until it fires.

I'm now unsure about what I should be doing. If adjusting the dizzy myself, do I just do it by ear?

    Cheers guys.

Get a jump lead, connect one end to battery negative, one end to the gearbox or engine.

If the starter now seems to turn over the engine easier, you know it's time to replace the battery-gearbox earth.

    :)
