Goodbye old rusty drum brake rear axle Just waiting on the new stainless axle to body bolts and can mount up the new one. Then all that's needed is new handbrake cables and 2x braided hoses for axle to body
A bit more progress today Started to strip the old ABF and rob parts for the new one Actually kinda glad that i'm taking the time to do this because it's making me realise that it wasn't done properly the first time around (Frustratingly) Bolts missing and inappropriate parts used in a few places Anyways, it's getting there now.... Took the battery out the bay and toyed with a few places of where to put. Thinking here It'll be hidden under the false floor and i'll make a hatch for easy access Spray booth in use Leaving over night to see if bits need another coat or not but looking ok so far And, how i left the new motor for the night (Not the greatest shot as it was already dark) There are still bits and pieces that need sorting, such as: Coolant hoses Alternator needs painting properly And probably some other bits along the way Just hoping everything's all sweet with it Still waiting on a few nuts and bolts, handbrake cables and need to collect the rear braided hoses for axle to body... Waiting on postage this time of year is always interesting
Thanks buddy It's strangely satisfying ripping out all the rusty nuts and bolts and replacing them with nicely greased stainless ones
Because you want them or because of the colour? Still haven't had the guts to sort out the pedal box yet
haha i thought so It might sound stupid but i've been waiting to get another set of RM's for years now Still gaining experience with the welder and tying to work out the proper positioning for it
Managed to get the ABF a little bit further along Still need: Coolant hoses Oil cooler A few senders New hose clamps Also got the rear beam fitted up (It will need tracking/alignment etc sorted when back on the road) Still need: Braided hoses for beam to body Fit handbrake cables Once that's done it's onto under sealing and can start work on the bay/interior
Swung by Classic-VW Mark's place today and collected the final rear braided hoses Also got a proper chance to hang out with a cup of tea and a few rounds of Battlefield Now just need to fit them and properly adjust the handbrake cables then that's the rear end all finished
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas Managed to get the rear hoses fitted before the festive time - Now i'm thinking that i might have ordered the wrong handbrake cables as they seem to be way too long Managed also to get the rear hardlines installed Just need to get that damn pedal box fitted and can crack on with the rest
Are you having trouble with slave cylinders due to the floor? That looks to be my issue but yet to actuall get in and try it
yeah that's the main issue i've noticed. I've been checking out other builds using floor mounts to try and get some ideas but still yet to come up with something
That's what i was wondering.. Not by much but enough to raise slightly and follow the line of the floor When are you planning on tackling yours?
It's been a while but managed to get a few bits started and sorted today - Ran the lighting loom through the chassis leg and out the grommet in the foot well Started stripping the engine loom and removed the front panel Made up some alternate handbrake guides but might need some slight tweaking No turning back now i guess Also had a play with the new dash display Thinking the rev counter needs to move slightly to accommodate the digi speedo but will get to that later Came across this under a bundle of electrical tape Interesting
haha i thought it gave it a nice wood look The Carbon wrapped ABS plastic has arrived now but going to wait until i've got the speedo before cutting it up
Thanks guys Had a chance to get a little bit more done today Let's get these holes filled Slow process and still in the very early days with the welder
