From back in July 2009 - hopefully this gives an idea

The car is very easy to drive moderately, but it isn't easy to drive quickly.

Subtle use of the right foot can usually get the power down, without the need for fancy math!

    Ok cheers, makes sense.

Do we know what turbo its running?
(sorry for the questions i did read up to page 20, but got bored of reading "great car" posts )

surely going 4WD on it makes sense then?
It would be able to put the power down so much quicker.

you know that if they wanted to go 4WD, it would have been that years ago

And why go 4WD when it does so well as is?

You just have to be a very good experienced driver to get out of it what has been proven many times.

p.s. if you don't already know they also have a mad mk2....

You don't need 4WD on track.

    Thank you

Unsurprisingly after the recent events in London, the Mk1 and the Mk2 have been totally neglected for the last month, the Mk1 hasn't moved. So this eve I took them both out for a run round, to keep them ticking over. The Mk1 still feels taught, like the 'new' car it is.

Just very well built and maintained, and incredibly easy to drive - slowly - even with a paddle unsprung race clutch in it! You'd never believe it's as quick as it is, except for the giveaway that it'll happily pull 6th gear round town on a moderate throttle at 1,500rpm!

I am not sure what the intercooler is - it's very big, definitely fabricated, potentially over-sized, and was put in the car at the original 1.8T installation in 2001.

Hi, I think it is Seat Ibiza, the logic being a shorter set of cables than the contemporary Golf.

I will try to check some part numbers on it soon. There is an equal chance it is Lupo I suppose?

There aren't any part nos on the tower itself, well possibly hidden underneath, but one of the cables has 1J0 711 565 on it. The ETKA gurus should be able to suss which car from 1J0, after all, it's the cables that are the key

1J0 711 565 comes back as a 'cover' on a 98-06 golf and loads of other mk4 type models inc lupo, polo etc so it doesnt really help :(

i think there might be a letter missing off the number maybe?

Hmm, ok thanks RJ, will check for more next time I see it.

The car was out at Brands today, generally running well throughout. Early in the afternoon it came in and I could smell oil and see it whisping out of the bonnet - turned out to be the OE-type classic oil pressure sensor failure, and it was quite surprising how much it leaked considering there's no cracks visble in the plastic. Anyway, shout once again to Mark @ Saxon Motorsport, one of Club GTI's sponsors, for digging out a spare and enabling the car to carry on

Amusing chat whilst I was there. One of Saxon's customers had earlier pointed to the Reeves Mk1. He'd got a Jag XJS racer, original Jag engine wasn't deemed quick enough, so it now sports an Aston V8 supercharged mill. He'd earlier asked: "Do you know that Golf?"... "Yeap"... "Well it's cost me a lot of money!"

I suspect he's not the only one!
