What's more, it's technically a small bumper car IIRC :p

Racey everything really - springs, dampers etc. Camber's probably the interesting side of 1.5/2 degrees.

    Love it!!!

Any pics of how the aero catches are support from underneath chris? Few of the rally boys have advised me to avoid them with fiberglass bonnets but i really want the locking feature of the aero catches!!

^^ That vid of the Caterham chasing the Mk2 at Brands, even ~6 years on, it's the best vid of the car.

Best pic I have of the aerocatches underside Charlie - HTH:

There's not a lot - best I can find….and a bit of the story too for those who missed bits along the way.

There's not much info on it between '96 and '99. Appearance at a couple of CCC Combe Action Days, before the line was drawn on those harem-scarem specials, track days every couple of weeks - and plenty of reliability! Used to run a 16V in those days, with just a half cage in it.

Interior pic from late 2002, when featured in the Jan 2003 Golf mag.

Back in late 1998, the 1.8T was eyed up for the Mk2. The previous John Jones (RIP) of Audigolfhits 2.1 16V on twin 48s was dropped into the Motoring News classifieds, and John Jones did the 1.8T install, running on DTA management, as it does today. The 1.8T made its CGTI trackday debut at Blyton in 1999:

^^ Still running the half cage there I think. Later on it was booked in for a proper cage. "Time to really develop this car" were the words. Through old rallycross Ford connections, Gordon Spooner Engineering (who used to prepare works Ford recce cars and Gwyndaf Evan's Rapid Fit F2 RS2000 Escort) put a fully welded cage in up to the turrents, and a new roofskin, minus the just-visible sunroof.

Before long, 250-ish horsepower on a K04 wasn't enough, so it was off to Jabbasport for an IHI turbo, on one of the original hand-made manifolds. 300 brake and power levels enough to propel this Mk2 onto a higher plane….

… before proceeding to devour ?020? IIRC gearboxes with the new found power.

Quaife sequential gearbox installed in ~1999. Sequentials were big news, and trackday chins were on the ground. I remember it - I was there.

    The old Quaife sequential gearshifter…

    ... and indicator mechanism:

    ... and the necessary gauges:

The Mk2 subsequently dropped a valve at a Spa trackday in late 2002, and was recovered to Jabba where it lay low. The Quaife gearbox was sold - ironically too many missed gears and buzzed revs being blamed for the valve drop.

Sometime late 2003/early 2004, back in went an 02A/J Quaife H-pattern 6-speed kit, with a fully rebuilt Jabba 1.8T unit on steel rods and with the cast IHI manifold, which is still broadly the spec it runs today.

The 02A/JFrazero uprated gear selector bush, also mentioned on this 02A/J uprate thread:

And an older pic from a Golf mag feature, still in narrow track spec then - converted sometime ~2004 to Passat arms/4-stud hubs with 10.5mm/side stub axle spacers at the rear, same as the Mk1.

That interior is mint, pretty much defines 'function over fashion'!
