Enjoyed the write up, thanks for posting.

What is the thinking behind the wheel weights?

Are they that close to the caliper than when there is a bit of heat in the brakes, metal expanding is enough to touch the weights?

Always good to see one of these two cars out and about embarrassing a few money monsters! Can't wait to see them in the flesh sometime!

    Nice write up, thanks.

Is that settings sheet available to download?

Great that it's been an enjoyable write up, thanks for the comments

It never loses its appeal. There's four of us team up to go where the Reeves' Golfs go, obviously Father and Son, Mark who maintains and develops them and myself, and we all go out on these days knowing they'll never be boring. Forget ever getting up for work at 5:30am, but never a problem with cars! [:$]

The wheel weights are fag paper close to the brakes, and it was actually just down to weight positioning on that one, and believe it or not either the caliper or hub assembly flexing under heavy braking! Literally fractions :o

The phone is mine, it just runs Tom Tom and possibly Racechrono

Tricky one this. Trouble with Brands is when I once put a camera in the Mk1, we were handed a sheet to sign saying it wouldn't be publicly broadcast etc etc - MSV terms. Nobody would take any notice of this normally and just stick it on youtube, but as it would be pretty obvious it's the Reeves and they know folk at Brands, and they know Jonathan Palmer from rallycross exploits, we aren't in a hurry to test out the rules!

I'll try and get some external footage sometime? !

I asked for a form when I took my camera on raceday, and they said MSV don't require forms now.
Did you get any sneaky laptimes? I bet you did ;) [:D]

In that case, it's no problem to get some video then! I'll check it's all ok with MSV and stick in on the project list!

The satnav comes off the dash for the day, it's just a reliable speedo for the road. I once drove it into noise testing with it still left on and they were pointing at it straight away!

Chris , You should be contributing to some of the magazines , with writing skills such as that . Grat , informative , and interesting write-up . Do they notice much of a difference with the Canards on the front wings?

Thank you Tris, you're too kind!

The canards really are just homebrew ideas, obviously trying to smoothen airflow, and for minimal effort.

I still remember the CCC mag feature , one quote that sticks out is that it got a "nasty" engine when they went turbo-charged!

Ah, the so-called "nasty" engine, a slightly perverse compliment referring to its snarly revviness, is the 16v now in my Mk1. Back in the day, they'd tried a few 16vs, but this one was on TBs in 1998 as opposed to previous carb'd motors, and this was the last 16v they had.

Thanks for writing this up Chris is a great read! How often does the mk2 make an appearance at Brands?

    Thanks!

Not since August, obviously, but once a month or two otherwise is fairly normal.

A few pics and a quite update - the car is currently in for what looks like some major work, but it's just doors off for accesibilty:

The old dash had been chopped up for lightness, but was a bit unsightly, so a new dash was acquired in early August last year, days before the riots. So now on the schedule for fitment:

There's a bit of rewiring happening also, partly why the doors are off.

The steering column is out, because electric PAS is being installed:

The semi-automatic set up has been abandoned, at full track speed, it just couldn't replicate the speed that the clutch user depresses the pedal (as opposed to controlled releases), so back to a normal pedal box.

And I think that's it for now!

Will be interested in seeing what the verdict is on this.

Heard a lot of good and bad things about using these.

Their MK1 has it already and Chris has driven that, although not sure if installed at the time...
