Those times can definately be improved on massively.

The Golf is not the lightest of cars. I ran a 14.898 and 15.1 on the same day in my old 2.0 8v MK2. Everything rear of front seats was gone save for carpet. Car flew that day on std road tyres, transmission, etc.

Timed at Santa Pod in 2002. I will have to dig slip out from the archives.

GVK, wasn't this weekend that you were going to make the dyno runs!? And so far, what is your opinion on the 50mm?

Yep,it's this weekend HidRO, car doesn't see to run any worse, and feels a bit stronger after 5000rpm, the plots will tell the story on Sunday

GVK what is the spec of your car and why did you go to 50mm inlet out of interest?

    Last time I did one
14.01 in the rain at Avon park in a standard car.....in 1991 in the car below...Which is now not standard.

    2litre 9A 16v
    flowed head
twin exhaust cams (ie- exhaust cam modded to use as inlet with modified timing)

Since I owned the car it's been fitted with a DFQ gearbox which has longer ratios than the standard 2Y 16v 'box

With the 42mm the engine had cracking mid range which suited the gearbox, as the long ratios made the motor reluctant to reach the top end.

That gearbox broke, so I had a 2Y recon with Quaife ATB, now the engine seems a lot more willing to rev and I felt the top end of the rev range was being held back by the smaller manifold, so that's my reasoning behind it all.

In theory the mid range will suffer compared to the small manifold, but now with shorter ratios that shouldn't affect the car much, the larger manifold should gain between 5-7bhp at the top end, lot of Americans have proven this on their cars.

LOL! - Gained a whole 1 bhp and lost mid range torque, only strange thing about it was the 50mm has lowered the peak torque by 700rpm

We know a song about that...

Damn! So, its not a good thing to do, swap the 50mm intake!? Best to keep a 42mm?
Cause i have a 50mm in the car, and a 42 in the garage!!

Edit: The car was tunned to do the dyno run!? and the atmospheric temp and all was near the same?

Hmm, thats strange alright. You cant really see an accurate comparison though unless you run them side by side on the same day...

All I've done is swap the manifolds, The figures get compensated for anyway with regards to ambient temp and baro pressure.

Yep, ideally you want to run them on the same day though.
