i was running 14.6 at the pod with 7psi about 170 bhp due to a boost valve leak

when i run on sunday with 1 bar i hope to do 14.4 to 14.1

    paul_c was running 14.4 with a 2.0 16v

That was no traction atall near 400bhp and front wheel drive is no good for the strip unless your on big slicks !

forgot to mention im running a standard k03 baby turbo

if i was running a ko3s and biggers injectors id be in the late 13s for sure so value for for and power 18t all the way

and my car was built in my front garden this thread has some good info but not many facts the vr6 is a good engine but the 18t is designed for turbo use so wins hands down

there are some big powered 18ts out there if you search and its true theres no replacement for displacement but 1.8 doing over 200bhp is all you need:lol:

James was doing 12's with 400bhp and no slicks were allowed, so would have had the same traction or less actually because it is lighter....but has a smaller turbo so is more drivable.

Although the times cant really be compared because of the weight difference, drivability can.

My turbo is not big for my engine .
It has no lag and is on full boost before 3000rpm

    Its just weight isn't it....my cousin did a 14.3 1/4 with a 1300cc 'A' series Mini and only 130bhp.

yeah it is weight or lack of which gives it a good to weight ratio also down to the driver to get the thing going without minimun squeel

    there was a 16v nova doing 14.4

i just think a vr6 engine with a turbo is overkill @750bhp i aint seen many of them

one thing i do know is if i was on the track against a vr6 id get away quicker but loose out top end depending on vr6s power

1/4 mile times are indeed directly related to weight; and inversely proportional to power - which is what this thread is all about! Aerodynamics comes into it at higher speeds, for a (very) simple approximation, aerodynamics only becomes significant above 100mph.

    So, the facts are:

    HIGHLINE VR6T and CLAIMED 407bhp 14.8
    bens_cab 20vT Cabby, estimated/computed 170bhp 14.6
    paul_c 2l 16V Mk1 hatchback, known* 147bhp 14.40

*The car was on the rolling road on Thursday

Reminder: its not a competition for who has the biggest sub-bass; or the most seats; or the shiniest paintwork; or who can smoke and squeak the tyres the most. Its the lowest ET. The timing gear is accurate to 1/1000 sec and is FIA Approved, etc etc. We all ran the same track, on the same day, in the same (approx as it varied through the day) atmospheric conditions.

    CASE CLOSED!**

** Other contributors feel free to post up car, engine spec, ET achieved at GTI Festival as a useful comparison.

Yes and on the road that nova will kill your golf a c20xe vauxhall engine is one of the best 16v engines ever ! I have even seen them fitted to vw's in germany .
I have had a corsa that was 290bhp it was sick fast it was half the weight of my golf and was on 195 tyres and would kill my golf off the mark !
