    Spot the Mk3 fanboys :-)

If the ABF is SOOOOOO good why arent they putting that into Lotus Elises?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the ABF and 20vt are both cack.

150Bhp and 180Bhp, Bwahahahahhaha. My grannies car probably has more Bhp.

youre right about the 20vt being pony, 2k to gain a further 20bhp on a turbo engine? with 2k, my abf would be close to 300, but then, fwd will always be gay so, that wont be happening

i have driven 1.8t's in different cars and a fair few ABF's and I know which I prefered, all standard though.

Either way, its cool to have a car everyone hates anyway

Where did you get 2K from?

ABF Engine as in the block itself can be picked up for what 450-500 now?

20VT Engine on a crate is no more than 800.

You can get 200Bhp out of even the worst 20VT by adjusting boost, so its already 40Bhp more than you can get out the best ABF as standard cars.

But I will say, once you start wanting more than 200Bhp, although many people have done it and are doing it, its firmly in the arena of diminishing returns.

I spent nigh on 2K on mine, got 254Bhp, 290ft.lbs torque, and it was still FWD.

is the cheapest route not to source a 225 engine and then boost that?

  9. Admin Guest

Depends, internally, the non turbo part of the 225Bhp engine flows LESS than the 150Bhp engine. (small ports vs large ports).
Plus the 150Bhp has forged rods and pistons, something the 225Bhp doesnt have.

Putting a big turbo on an AGU would be the safest for big power.

I know someone running 320Bhp on his and he has been for 3 years now.

with FWD? to be honest the money spent to get all that - could be better spent on a lighter more agile 2 seater imo...

FWD is fine for anythign less than 300Bhp.

I myself can testify that FWD isnt 'bad' with near 260Bhp.

It could have been better with a LSD.

    270lbsft in a mk1 makes for a scary drive

  13. Admin Guest

Thats a Mk1, not something with the far more advanced chassis and suspension as a Mk4.

So really, what and how FWD does its thing depends on waht its doing it in.....

nah, sorry the 20vt must be one of the best power plants out there.
and the handling on a standard mk4 is a MILLION times better than that of a mk3, especially the vr6 with its big fat engine up front. i cant see the point in big engines anymore. small engine and a decent turbo is all thats needed.

  20. Admin Guest

I agree. I think its one of the most capable small engines ever made.

This is backed up by the amount of conversions using the 20vt as a base.

That said, its no match for my current 3.2 straight 6, and as a car, the two cars are similar prices.
