My grandad bought a Charade Gtti, the silly fast turbo one, and drove at 35mph everywhere. On the motorway, around roundabouts, 180 degree hairpins... eventually he got crashed into at the end of our road because he didn't believe in indicators. My mum got him out of the car for a "Good strong drink", which took him about half an hour to walk the quarter mile (measured at Santa Pod) back to the house, while my dad knocked ten shades of sh*te out of the guy who hit him, for being abusive to an old man. Imagine Vinny Jones slamming the guy's head in the car door, but put 20 years and 10 stone on him.
i was at the dealers the other day. a large engined almost new a6 was on ling langs. tbh its only going to be pretty daft people who buy pony tyres, and it going to be people like that who cannot drive properly. you never know when youre going to need a bit of extra grip
budget tyres are for people (read as women) who see car and engine maintenance as a financial inconvenience to passing the MOT once a year.
a full set of posh tyres would cost more than my car's worth and it doesn't go fast enough to need em. squeeleasies it is.
And for people who think Kwik Fit and the like are the only place to buy tyres, so can't afford the expensive ones. The great thing about buying a good set of tyres, is you can always move them to the next car. I usually by good brands, but not the very top ones (e.g. I buy Toyo or Pirelli), and because I'll tend to buy more VW's if I get rid of the current ones, I can swap good bits over.
My new Audi has had four new tyres from previous owner - Amtel Planet. They are absolutely shocking in the wet. Just applying a little throttle while turning or exiting a roundabout I can feel the front wheels slipping. It's an accident waiting to happen. Too much gas out of a roundabout and my car's going to spin out of control. I've never really had a problem with buying budgets for the Corsa. I mean, we only normally replace one at a time (naughty) and two of the current tyres are good (Pirelli and Continental) but with FOUR crap tyres at the same time...
Completely revoking this statement now. Got some P6000's all round in January as replacements and they are rubbish. Compound must have been changed, presumably. To add insult to injury, they half worn already. Despite me not even driving the car for 8 weeks so far this year. Junk.
kumho ku31s fitted recently after reading a lot of detailed tests. they are a very good budget performance tyre
