Here's a pic to make a few points that have been raised - 1, cheap cameras can take good pics - this one was a Fuji Finepix 2700 or something. 2, Composition - breaking the shot up with foreground and background 3, Aperture - the high level of ambient light meant the camera was using a high F number, so the depth of field was huge - allowing the very close foreground and distance to be in focus 4, Contrast - light sky, metering off the outside light not the inside light, creates great silhouette effects. 5, ok, it's not a car.
Can anyone advise on what I could do to improve these... I'm using an Olympus mju 400 (digi) and a table top tripod with pretty much standard settings as per the way it is when you turn it on! Apart from the lack of flash at times. Ignore the state of the car, I know it needs things doing! I particularly like the colour it looks in this pic (totally by accident)
I'm an advocate of black & white pics, can't get enough of them! Recently purchased a Fuji S5500 (about 200) with a cheap tripod. The previous point 'n' click digital camera wasn't giving me enough flexibility over all the settings. It's overwhelming at first getting something where you can mess with everything (and you get a lot of duff shots lol) but it's worth it when you do capture something decent.
the fuji you've just bought - how much of a delay is there from pressing the shutter release to it taking the pic?
I got the Fuji s5000 - it's the 3MP predecessor to the 5500. The shutter is fired in a couple of milliseconds. Realy quick compared to some cameras I have seen. I think this camera is great. I took it to New York with me and took about 400 pics. Got them printed at Boots and they are awesome. The colour and clarity of the pictures is brilliant. My dad bought a Nikon which cost about 700 and the delay from pressing the button to the shutter going is unbelieveable. No way you could take action shots with it...
I've only skimmed this thread so I'm sure most of this has been covered already! None of this is specifically aimed at those pics Riley, just general advice. * Always take care over your background. A nice quarry/derelict building can be fantastic but the shot is ruined if there's a wheelie bin in the background or litter blowing about. * I personally NEVER take car photos standing up at eye height. I at least always kneel down. It looks SO much better. You don't have to lie down for an ant's eye view. * Dark, shiney cars can be a pain to photo in broad daylight. Wait til early dusk, and if you can get a polarising filter for your camera. Otherwise you can't see the car for all the complex refelctions in the paint. * An otherwise dull photo can be livened up with some nice angles - try rotating the camera a bit. I'm sure that's been covered already... But a couple of pics that show what I mean:
both 5700 and 8700 do it. its a bit akward coz you'll end up taking about 5 pictures in one go but at least you catch the action
cheers for the input darren, and everybody else i seem to have problems getting it right with black cars! ill try your advice, seems to make it harder the shinier the car is,especially in bright daylight like you say. neil.
Some lovely pics there guys. I've got a Fuji Finepix F450, and trust me, i'm no photographer, I always tend to have the flash on auto. I took these yesterday in bright sunlight, it was just a case of point and shoot, though i did try and get a bit arty in a couple of them I was quite chuffed with how they came out really I'm not even sure that, as cameras go, the F450 is even that good? Seems to take ok pictures though? Edited by: jimmy oldskool
After doing a bit of research on DigiCams lately the F450 is preety good, im planning to get the model above it, the F455. For a person who thinks their no photographer, I think yours have come out quite good.
F450 is a great camera......... don't suppose you got that recently when it was on offer, 150 quid off list price?
i've been looking at S5500 online - and think i'm gonna have to buy one - anyone got any alternative suggestions? i don't need huge picture quality - 3Mp is fine - but i do want a decent zoom, and minimal shutter delay
am doing photography at college, want to be a car photographer, shoot for mags etc not sure whats been posted but some of my tips dont shoot with the sun behind the car dont shoot in the morning or early noon, shoot late noon dont shoot at eye level, move around crouch down etc usually focus on the front of a car if shooting angled shots if your goin arty farty, place the car on one of the thirds ermm all i can think of jus now some iv took recently of my car
I'm feelin' these pics. Cool mood shot. Liking the storm clouds I love this picture. It kinda brings the car to life. I recon this car is wondering what it would be like if he was free from the restrictions of tarmac and what it would be like to fly over the treetops. Personality makes a photo interesting. Mean!!
