You mean with his VW smut, right?
Well, he shouldn't have stuck his surname to the back of the old beetle variant up there, then.

If VAG didn't exist, and all their rustproofing and QC men had gone to Italy, then I'd have to have a Delta Integrale. Failing that, an E30.

But realistically I'd probably have said "I need a quick car I can get my mountain bike in" and have bought a 205 GTI.

    Mk2 Escort 2dr on a budget ... not likely. However, a Mk2 RS1800/2000 would be/is my number one too.

I would probably buy a new Vauxhall Corsa Vxr in bright red.

I love subtly styled, classy hatch backs you see.....

I don't mean a Mexico or RS model, I was thinking a 2 door base spec with a 2.0 pinto, could do it within 2k. At Run To The Sun last year there was a tidy 1.3 Mk2 for 1500, pintos are 50, other bits a pieces probably bringing it upto 2000 all in.

I've seen 4dr's going for silly money so it's probably not even worth looking at 2dr's

There are bargins still to be had, much like Mk1 Golfs, they pop up now and then for reasonable money, plus it helps knowing people who have contacts.

The bloke who has done work on mine and my dads car picked up a 1963 Ford Anglia 105E which had been owned by the same lady since new for 700 last year, the old dear was still using it daily until her eye sight got too bad to drive. He reckons he could find me a Mk2 ready to go for less than 3000.

Exactly:clap: I sold my Mk1 Gti back to one it's previous owners because at the time he had more time to keep it mint. I only had time to look after the engine. I don't think it's a good idea to generalise about what people on a forum can/cannot afford!

It is all about personal taste and reasoning. With an inexhaustible supply of money, I wouldnt have a garage full of supercars. I'd have a 2.7RS, an F40 and a 288GTO ... other than that it would be crammed full of cars like the Mk2 RS2000, the Lotus Sunbeam, the Manta 400 and a Chevette HS. They are the cars I'd choose, and I'm sure many people would look at me like I am from Mars for picking them over say ... a Ferrari Enzo. I agree with the argument thats its not always about not being able to afford it either. I could go out and buy several of the cars I really want today, but I dont. I have my reasons for that as well, and as was mentioned in the previous post, there are many people who cant understand why I dont.
