To be honest I thought I would have scuffed it putting it on to! I had the engine at a fair angle and tilted back so I didn't have to lift the diff end (heavy end!) too far. Went on first time with just a little jiggle to get it fully home - quick panic and get a bolt in! Lol Would have been easier with an assistant I know that much!
Bit more done, doesent look much but I was in the garage all day! CAE box plate fitted, all engine mounts done, blank made for the reverse light switch, few bits cleaned / painted, sump off as its battered! All electrics plugged in and a bit of harness wrapping and probably other stuff I can't remember!
Cheers dude Few more little bits done, it's always the little bits that take the time! Made some new brackets and mounted the rad Gear linkages connected and set up New (same as my old but with new bits) alternator adjuster rod made, LH and RH thread for easy adjustment Trial fit of the RH carb to make sure it clears the alternator and top hose. Baffling the new sump tomorrow if all goes to plan
Cheers Mr Harper, il drop on with you as soon as iv finished messing. Better than welding J's Caddy! Lol New sump needed baffling so the Mrs lost the box for her Special K ! The two plates at the bottom were the same as my old one had but decided to add the rib around the side to aid oil control but also make it drop in. Looks better in steel! And fitted, touched up the paint from where I have welded it in, new bolts and washers to
Love the attention to detail on this. What did you use to paint the gearbox? Stainless bolts are a nice touch aswell
Bloody lovely bit of work that! Dont you just love the sump bolts under the bell housing of the gear box? I know i do.
Cheers chaps, I etch primed the gearbox then painted in Tough finish aerosol, iv used it before on stuff under the car and it lasts well. The sump went on without a fight but I know which bolts you mean, iv had several fights with them before!
Hi mate, plan is to have it back on the road April, not sure what shows / events I'm doing yet but will always be at the CGTI Curbrough days. You are not far away anyway so we could always catch up when the Suns out
looking about april for mine allthou looking at it thats hard to belive lol. I will be at the curbrough events this year and yea we will have to catch up when the sun is shining.
Been doing a bit! Took advantage of the TPS sale Re-blanked some sections of the grill and cut out some flats to improve airflow to the rad, going to try and seal around the rad at some point. Rest of today was finishing off lots of bits n bobs, lower strut brace on, speed pick up on the drive shaft, carbs linkage and fuel hose fitted, FPR set at 3psi, grill fitted, trans and engine oil, oil cooler fitted and new pipes made. Worn out now! Just got to add coolant and oil catch tank back on and it can be started to check the carb settings
Small update, catch can fitted, it's a bit small at 3/4 L but it has worked fine for the last 2 years - It was once a digger exhaust! Lol New deeper sun strip, I'd rather change a clutch than do a job like this! It's not to bad but I had fun fitting it! Federal RSR's ordered from tyre traders.com, best place I found. Just needs coolant and its ready to start
