Cheers my body shop mate would not say great job he laughed at the filler and dug it all out then beat the dent out and then just a light skim it now looks spot on pics will follow soon. im going to run 312 mm discs and the original 323 mm brackets that come with them but i machined 6.5 mm off the mating face to bring them in closer i have not built them up yet so do not know if that is going to work. would love to make the brackets but i have no time in my life at the moment but might have to if ive wrecked my other ones.
Not much of an update but a lot of progress has been made all the underseal has now been stripped off any rubber gromets underneath have been removed and welded up and the drivers rear quarter has bee primed giving me a much needed boost! thats it for now hopfully have it all primed in the next two weeks.
Looking good Nath I think my Mk2 will be needing this treatment. Im going to examine the rust some more over the weekend and see how far its gone.
Cheers but there has been a years work to get it to this stage but mine had gone bad around the arches and filler neck and cap yours will be no where near.
Great work though I wish i had the skills to carry out body work. I bet you cant wait till its finished
Rear end lower panel welded in by yours truly then i let loose the body wizzard to put it right etched primed and looking good. Next for the tail gate found some rust around the number plate lights pics to follow next time!
Welded up the one hole on the number plate hole as it was rotten will cut new one out later, all dents filled and high build primer applied and tailgate fitted. Then same with the passenger door all nice and straight now.
Bought this i know im not doing it in the right order but it was only 500 with new leads also it is not very old and i couldnt resist.
No worries The thing is, after reading up on a few restoration threads, a year off the road would be so worth it There is no way I'd ever sell the mk2, so it would be well worth it. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread mate.
Just a little update now it has been primed in etch primer and seam sealed underneath is is now ready for stone chip shall be doing this some time this week. Ive fitted the cable change pics to follow. Ps. sorry for the crappy iphone pics
Stop it! You are making me jealous... Great work. Love to have the space to fully strip mine and attend to a few rough patches which are developing.
Just a pic of the selector trial fitted bolted from the bottom into rivnuts i fitted into a plate id welded in, and nuts and washers from the top the threaded rod that sticks through were changed to longer ones and a 25 mm spacer was added so it all sit nice and square.
Problems my motor on my compressor has give up so sent it away for rewinding and new bearings so got bored and bought this to get the power i want it is a beast of a turbo at the right money. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271102708806?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Now lookng for a manifold and a set of supertech valves for the head and not forgetting some forged rods!
