Thanks guys, the torque is the best bit, it pulls all the time, loving flying around in it this weekend. No problem Seb, sent that text to a lot of people in hope of finding one! Sorted now so thats the important thing.
just done all 11 pages in one hit! happy finally? cant believe you still have the same grinding noise 18 months after you put the engine back in! will have a look when I bring that degreaser round tommorrow/today for you.
Late night mate!! Will sort that noise one day, its always had that metal on metal grinding noise when turning left since we put it back together. Had it in the air a few times expecting to see some big scrathes/marks but theres nothing. Don't seem to slow it down.
Not done much to the car of late, just done a couple of those little odds and sod that you never seem to get round too. Fitted a new bonnet latch and my Dad had a fiddle with it and the bungs in the slam panel, and got the bonnet to sit nice and in line with the wings so pleased with that. Gave it a good clean and polish today and took a few pics. Got a new camera, Panasonic FZ28 so good excuse to play with it. Couple of the better pics are below, still got some tinkering to do with it to get the best out of it.
Hi Ian, Great work, finally looking like your car, its knowing when to stop! The standard look is always a winner... Take a look at this old pic mate, going back some years! :-) http://www.flickr.com/photos/barrell/2266832125/ It looks standard - but far from it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/barrell/
Page 3 you lazy bugger! Lol, save you looking: I'd love to update this thread but truth be told apart from a new light switch i've done nothing but enjoy driving it of late, got a few things on the go in the garage and got to fix an on going issue with my headlights but thats it.
Ian forgot to mention actually, ive had a thought with the mystery noise and it is actually relating to the mating of the manifold and decat!
The grinding noise when turning left? Or was it right? As stupid as this sounds I don't even no if it still does it, driven it that much I've got used to it or don't even notice it. Come and have a drive.
What i was thinking was using an olive between the manifold and decat and then using longer bolts with springs to hold it together so you can gain a slight bit of movement on the system at that point as well
my manifold has longer bolts with stiff springs too seals it a treat! and WTF it that under the car? it looks like you running a cat.. I was expecting somthing like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-GTI-MK3-8V-2-0L-92-EXHAUST-DECAT-DE-CAT-PIPE_W0QQitemZ160381823766QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2557806b16 not this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK3-8V-16V-VR6-DE-CAT-DECAT-PIPE-EXHAUST_W0QQitemZ270431604759QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3ef6fad017
Its a resonated de cat pipe, bought it off a guy we both know that had it sitting in his shed after previously having it on his old mk3
Its a lot more like the second one Alan although not stainless, the kink in it we talked about is at the end. Have a look under at Stanford hall.
I've had this car almost 5 years now and this evening I did a first.... I filled it up with fuel, all the way to the top, 59!!
