Well got the exhaust off, got bored of punching the diff trying to unbolt the backbox, so since it was shagged anyway I cut it off it was blowing horrendously, mainly due to this flange becomming a seperate part from the joiner section - Sorted that out Then the backbox, which had disconnected itself from the rest of the system and the pipe that joined up to the front section had seen better days too And so I'm doing the sensible thing, having a side exit again
4 hours later - new exhaust, made mostly out of the exhaust I ripped off my old Mondeo tailpipe included
nice sound, the 20v wont sound as good. I would recomend losing some weight off the flywheel, as they weigh the same as a small cow! the 20v should be slightly lighter... but not much
I plan to lose some weight on the fly having seen it! Hotgolf will be getting a PM before it goes in Although having said that, I'm not 100% sure which fly/clutch I need to use yet... Either way it'll be lightened, best thing I ever did on the Golf!
i could believe the weight on them, the 10v ones are heavier that the 20v ones from what i know of the turbo engines, in fact i think the rally car uses a 7A flywheel with an S2 clutch
From what I've read I need the 7a fly with a WR clutch, something like that, I'll read about it when I'm ready to fit it.
I swear this car just does not wanna see the road! I took it for an MOT other week and they just plain old laughed at it and said no chance but all they could come up with was a wonky headlight. I took it back today in exactly the same state with the headlight fixed, and despite much amusement it didn't really fail that badly. Only 2 pages of fails and a page of advisories - Headlight aim is all over the place Front indicators are insecure (zip tied in place) Split wiper blade Washers are weak as f*ck (a new problem today that one) Front drivers side brake is binding Rear disc is rusty as f*ck Wishbone bushes on one side ARB bushes Exhaust needs another mount welding on And the 'rear arm' bushes, neither of us could decide what to call it [] And just for good measure, the alternator belt snapped on the way home so I was sat in traffic sh*tting myself that it was going to overheat! So I've got the entire front subframe, brakes and suspension from my engine donor to bolt on, sort out the little bits and take it to the other guy round the corner who doesn't test headlight aim (it's not a simple fix, it's a top Jolfa bodge) Kinda gotta crack on with getting it MOT'd as I've killed the van so this has to be my daily for now! Boring update, I'll get some pictures if anything actually happens worth seeing []
Not yet [] Slight change of plans too, I figured since the subframe's coming off, that's half the work for getting the engine out, so I'm half way through ripping that out now
Never again! They're stupid on fuel, a pain in the **** when it's anything less than a perfect sunny day, and I'm scared half to death of car fires now
Thanx guyz, appreciate the input! The wheels that will be on it will be 9x16 ET15 Borbet B's with a collection of shagged worn out tyres in various different sizes and brands. Sweet, I'm sure you'll agree.
Bit of progress, I struck a deal with my mate - he hates welding and grinding and cosmetic bits and bobs, I hate unbolting impossible sh*t in tiny spaces and skinning my knuckles every 5 minutes, so we swapped. I've been busy tidying the bay up in his Volvo, he did the rest of the work to get my engine out, easiest way to remove an engine ever, I barely even touched it Next I've gotta de-loom, clean and paint and then re-loom the bay ready for the new engine
