sorry, this wasn't ment as a dig. I was just poining out that everyone has to learn somewhere. I just don't fancy learing in my daily driver. If I couldn't afford to build a second car (mk2) then I would probably take the ibiza out on a track. As it stands I can afford it so I'm going to, maybe it's not the solution for everyone, but I think it is for me.

Yeah I agree totally. I was a bit simplistic in my explanation, I'm not just gonna chuck my ABF into a 1.3 cl mk2 and throw it at every gravel trap I can find. I know the importance of good mechanicals, I'm just not gonna go out and spend 600 on a set of coilovers when I don't even know if the cars gonna get much use.

I'm going to enjoy myself, not be the t**t on the track who is driving beyond his limits, nor however will I be the guy taking it far too seriously in a car that he's paid a garage to build for him ;)

    Ian.

When I was scouring the country for a Goodyear Eagle I was nearly forced to take a 4 speed 1 litre 106 to Donington - now some cars are just too sh1t...

i'm building a decent 1.8t mk2 road car, which won't go on the track, as it'll be about 4k invested in it by then, which is way too much for me to smash up

the current valver will then get to play track car, with just cage [in the garage] and 280s it owes me nothing so it'll be great to learn in, and is now getting pretty tatty.

I think a few lessons for mr Carvell will help a lot

    trackdays are about fun.

thing that surspises me is when people spend a fortune on a trackday car, and can drive well, but don't have a go at racing! why not?

i'm tempted at the mo to get a mkI MR2 as a trackday car to practice my rear wheel drive skills (they need a bit of work). but then i start thinkin...first i'll need a roll cage, then i'll need new susp, then i'll need new tyres....the costs add up.

I think racing will cost a fair bit more than a moderatley pricey track car...

You don't have to have any of those things to enjoy driving. In fact crap suspension in a rwd car can be quite amusing.

i know a series where you can have a hell of a lot of fun for under 5k...and you could cut down on that if you wanted to.

thats all in, per year...if you add up the cost of a trackday car, and the entry money for trackdays it starts gettin close (i think).
