Where would I put the pipe on a 1.6 GTD? before or after the intercooler?

If your woried about doing this remember a lot of rally cars have cold water induction to reduce the temp of the air along with inter/charge coolers.

Yup - set the idle to about 900 when you put it back in.

Not familiar with Tractor engines, so I wouldn't know what vacuum ports you have. You'll need to do it when it isn't producing any boost, for a start.

It'd be TT, if it was at the camp site - come and say hello this year, I'm not always as nasty in real life as I come across! It'll be an A class Merc hire car this year - you won't be able to miss it with the "Easycar" stickers all down the sides.......

i remember seeing that corsa careening around last year lol i can see the merc in a tree or something by the end of the weekend lol ;)

ill say hi if i catch ya

so im definately not gonna f**k me engine up doing this am i i have very little cash (i.e. none) to get it fixed if it goes wrong

the water flow will pretty much regulate itself through one of the vacumm tubes (gonna rip on off my old valver and use that)?

Keep the revs up around 2-3k, if it bogs down then either give it more throttle or take the tube out of the water.... I gave my long laid-up 8v a dose today at 6000rpm - 3 pints of water later and it runs as good as a new one, at 150k.

Yup,it needs to be hot. You want the water to flash into steam instantly, so keep it boiled up while you put the water in.....

When you're resetting the idle afterwards, you need to disconnect the red/black wire at it's connector by the coil. Turn the screw until it idles at 1k then reconnect the red/black wire.

P.S, it takes ages to run through so you can see there's not much water going in.

I bet your neighbours loved that!

How long did it take to run that much water through?

My neighbours are well used to it!
They're just wondering why their kids can't hear properly......
It went through rather quickly, actually - a 1.5 litre coke bottle full was gone in no time!

[RANT] I don't care if you call my engine a "tractor engine", as my car has more bhp/kw (80/59 @ 4500 rpm) than the driver (75/55 @ 5000 rpm) produces and let's face it a lot of people on this forum own a Driver and ask how to improve the performance of their car.

It obviously has a hell of a lot more torque than a driver as it has 144lbs. ft/155Nm @ 2500-3000rpm compared with the 92lbs. ft/125Nm @ 2500rpm of the 1595cc >09/90 driver engine and its only .2 or a second down on the drivers 0-60 time and obviously allows more MPG.

all figures quoted from the Golf Driver/Golf GTD sales documentation dated 09/1990[/RANT] ;)

Anyway on to what I was going to say about your post:

The GTD doesn't have a vacuum port as its a DIESEL, VW MK2 GTD TD (SB) engines don't have a vacuum system, which is why I asked the question in the first place.

how 'bout a pipe running off a kettle? i.e. pass steam in rather than water.
